Fantasy Basketball Buy, Sell, or Hold: Norman Powell and Tyler Herro

Trading in fantasy basketball can help you improve your team in the short, as well as in the long term. But, even more than that, it's just plain fun. Negotiating with your mate, going back and forth with offers, and hopefully, reaching a mutually beneficial agreement in the end.

It's not always easy to find the right deal that both parties could agree upon, so using the current form to your advantage could be helpful for you to get a deal done, and perhaps even get the most out of it.

Are You for Real, Norman Powell?

Powell has been killing it lately as the first offensive option for the COVID-impacted Raptors. He is hitting 50.7% of his 17.8 field goal attempts per game and 85.0% of his 5.0 free throws per game over his last four games and posting averages of 26.8 points with 4.5 three-pointers, 3.3 boards, 2.8 dimes, 1.5 steals, no blocks and 2.3 turnovers in 35 minutes a night during the last two weeks. This has him ranked at #37 on Yahoo for this period.

Norman is a great shooter, a great player and his game is pretty fantasy-friendly. However, he is not going to be the first option on the Raptors for very long with Pascal Siakam and Fred VanVleet expected to return from COVID protocols sooner rather than later. It is all but certain that this will impact both Norman's usage and playing time which will inevitably impact his stats and therefore fantasy contribution.

Powell will still be a top 100 fantasy guy, but there's no time like the present to try and get more for him. A player you like around the top 60 would be a good haul if you can get him for Powell. Some of the guys who aren't in great form lately (which could help persuade their fantasy GMs to let them go for Powell), but I like here are Malcolm Brogdon, Marcus Smart and Gordon Hayward. They all have a better reputation than Powell however, so it will probably require some clever negotiating to nab one of them for Norman. I hope you pull it off!

Time to Panic on Tyler Herro?

Herro has not been playing well lately. He scored in single digits in three of his last four games and has really struggled with his shot, hitting just 12-of-30 field goals and 4-of-6 free throws in this span. He also had just eight assists, four threes and no blocks. His contribution was salvaged a bit by his six steals and just three turnovers, but it's still far from what his fantasy managers would expect from him.

Now, even though Herro is not too efficient from the field anyways, his shot will start falling again, and when it does it will help his value out quite a bit. He should be able to get back to his season averages of 15.4 PTS with 1.9 3PM on 43.3 FG% and 76.2 FT%, 5.6 REB, 3.6 AST, 0.6 STL, 0.4 BLK and 2.3 TO in 32 minutes per outing. Additionally, I would expect him to improve from the charity stripe, as he was hitting 87.0% from the line in his rookie season.

If you don't mind his FG% and could use a guy who helps in threes, points and a bit in the boards and assists departments as well, Herro could be a realistic target. Make sure not to overpay, however, as you really shouldn't swap anyone from the top 100 for Tyler unless you really believe in him. If you can get him for someone like Lou Williams, Miles Bridges or Joe Ingles, that could prove to be a good investment when Tyler starts playing like himself again.
