David Montgomery's fantasy football start 'em, sit 'em picks for Week 18 (2023). Our advice on whether you should start or sit David Montgomery for fantasy lineups.
BALLER MOVE: Start in 10+ Team Leagues
POSITIONAL VALUE: RB2
ANALYSIS: Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery is the RB14 for the season, averaging 14.6 half-point PPR fantasy points per game despite missing three contests because of injury. He started on fire, scoring six rushing touchdowns over his first four games. While the veteran has been a scoring machine, he has only two touchdowns over the past four weeks.
Montgomery has had only three games with over 85 rushing yards this year, with the last coming in Week 10. He only needed 90 rushing yards to have 1,000 entering the Week 17 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys. Unfortunately, the former Iowa State start needs 25 on Sunday to secure his second career 1,000-yard rushing season.
While the Lions have little to play for in Week 18, head coach Dan Campbell has no intention of sitting his starters. However, he hasn’t said whether they would play the entire game or only a half. Detroit faces the Minnesota Vikings and their talented run defense on Sunday.
Fantasy players still playing in season-long leagues should explore other options at running back. Montgomery could play a few series before sitting on the bench in a meaningless game. Anyone playing in DFS or placing prop bets should also avoid the veteran running back.
