Biggest Fantasy Football Busts of the Week - Fantasy Outlooks for Joe Burrow, Raheem Mostert, Chris Olave, T.J. Hockenson

Joe Burrow - Fantasy Football Rankings, NFL Injury News, DFS and Betting Picks

Several NFL players underwhelmed in Week 4 of the 2023 fantasy football season. Andersen Pickard identifies busts at each position and whether they'll bounce back.

The fourth Sunday of the 2023 NFL season has come and gone. Hopefully, you woke up on Monday morning feeling very good about how your matchup went. However, this week's slate of games was certainly stress-inducing for many fantasy football managers.

Part of that stress was caused by a group of players who drastically underachieved in Week 4. These players simply did not meet fantasy expectations, and it cost their managers in a big way.

Let's take a look at the biggest busts from Week 4, as well as whether or not we can still have some trust in these players moving forward. All point totals are based on the PPR scoring system.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy football rankings for 2025:

Fantasy Football Quarterback Busts

Kirk Cousins, 9.56 FPTS

The Vikings won their first game on Sunday. Although Cousins did throw two touchdown passes, he was also held to 139 yards and tossed two interceptions. With that said, he has been one of the highest-scoring quarterbacks in fantasy football this year and should be able to bounce back against the Chiefs in Week 5.

Joe Burrow, 4.7 FPTS

Burrow had yet another disappointing game, completing just 20 passes for 165 yards while losing a fumble and taking three sacks. To make matters worse, he lost one of his top weapons, Tee Higgins (rib), to an injury that could sideline him for several weeks. Fantasy managers will face an unexpected dilemma in Week 5: whether or not Burrow can be started.

Fantasy Football Running Back Busts

Miles Sanders, 6.2 FPTS

Sanders rushed 13 times for just 19 yards on Sunday. He also added 13 receiving yards. The 26-year-old had his worst game as a member of the Panthers and could face similar trouble against the Lions in Week 5.

Raheem Mostert, 5.5 FPTS

After two unreal performances, Mostert came back down to earth in Week 4, amassing nine rushing yards and 36 receiving yards. He also lost a fumble. Week 4 represented the first game this season in which the veteran failed to find the end zone. He's destined to lose volume to rookie De'Von Achane but should still be viewed as a high-end RB2 going forward.

Aaron Jones, 2.4 FPTS

Jones (hamstring) returned from a two-week absence on Thursday, amassing just 14 scrimmage yards on six touches. In fairness, Detroit has played quite well against top running backs this season, so perhaps Jones' down game was merely a product of his poor matchup and lingering injury. One would imagine that he will bounce back against the Raiders in Week 5.

Fantasy Football Wide Receiver Busts

Deebo Samuel, 0.6 FPTS

Samuel mustered just six yards on Sunday, all courtesy of one rushing attempt. He finished the game without a target, yet the 49ers still won 35-16. San Francisco has relied on Brandon Aiyuk more than Samuel this season, but the latter should still be considered a solid low-end WR2 heading into next week's clash with the Cowboys.

Chris Olave, 1.4 FPTS

Olave was a non-factor in Week 4, catching just one of five targets. He totaled a mere four yards, finishing behind Alvin Kamara, Michael Thomas, Taysom Hill, and Rashid Shaheed in total yardage. There's no reason to panic about Olave. He is more than capable of bouncing back against the Patriots next week, especially if cornerback Christian Gonzalez (shoulder) misses extended time.

Michael Pittman Jr., 4.5 FPTS

Pittman turned five targets into just one catch for 15 yards on Sunday. He also caught a pass on a successful two-point conversion, bringing him to just 4.5 fantasy points in PPR leagues. He has consistently been a borderline fantasy WR1 this season but is best viewed as a WR2 as managers prepare for Week 5.

Fantasy Football Tight End Busts

George Kittle, 1.9 FPTS

Kittle caught just one pass for nine yards on Sunday. The 49ers won 35-16 despite getting just 15 scrimmage yards from Kittle and Samuel combined. This is a testament to the 49ers' incredible all-around talent, and an occasional dud game from any offensive player is not out of the ordinary. He'll rank as a mid-range TE1 against the Cowboys in Week 5.

T.J. Hockenson, 4.4 FPTS

Hockenson struggled as a result of Cousins' dud game. The talented tight end caught just two of three passes for 24 yards in the victory. He should have no trouble bouncing back against the Chiefs in Week 5.

Dallas Goedert, 4.5 FPTS

Goedert's relatively frustrating season continued in Week 4 as he caught just two passes for 25 yards. He has zero touchdowns this season and is averaging a measly 22 yards per game. He'll drop to the low-end TE1 tier and is no longer a must-start heading into Week 5 versus the Rams.
