Chase Brown fantasy football start 'em, sit 'em picks for Week 1 (2024). Should you start or sit Chase Brown for fantasy football lineups?
Baller Move: Start in 12+ Team Leagues
Positional Value: Flex
Analysis: Chase Brown shot up the fantasy football ranks in August. The sophomore back out of London, Ontario, is an athletic beast with a frame large enough to carry a workload.
All offseason, the Bengals coaches were hyping up Brown. Whether it was his pass-catching prowess or explosiveness as a runner, Brown was truly the talk of the town. Interestingly, this offseason he trained with the other darling of Bengals camp, Andrei Iosivas, working on their pass catching.
After trading Joe Mixon, the team only brought in journeyman back Zack Moss to compete for touches. As a result, Brown finds himself in what appears to be a committee backfield on one of the league's best offenses.
If you have followed my work this offseason, you know I am a Zack Moss believer. Unfortunately, the one chance to see them both in the preseason, Moss was inactive due to an illness. However, in that game, we saw Brown get all of the starter touches. Unfortunately, we also saw Brown miss some open gaps and try to bounce plays outside that didn’t need to be.
As a result, I am trying to avoid starting Brown in Week 1 this season. We do not know how this backfield split is going to work, and most likely we will see Moss be the early down back with Brown on passing downs. If that is true, a game where they are heavy favorites against the Patriots to start the season isn’t the best matchup for Brown. I’d wait a week, see what the split in touches is like, and reevaluate heading into Week 2.
