12:00 AM: JDG (-165) vs. FPX

Let’s focus on the matchups and let things fall where they may. One quick note - the first game of these best of five matches will be conducted under blind pick, and unlike the standard pick ban phase that we are used to, teams can have the same champion on opposite sides of the rift. The teams also won't know what the other team is selecting unlit they load onto the rift.

This matchup is one with which we are pretty familiar. JDG swept the playoff meeting, but FPX won the regular season match 2-1. These teams are very close statistically, and I won't be surprised to see this one go all five games. Zoom is on another level right now, his Mordekaiser during the tie break game was immaculate. He was able to 1 v 3 DRX and zone the entire fight allowing Loken and Yagao to deal out damage without fear of repercussions. Kanavi, too is playing at an insanely high level. I like JDG to win this match similarly to the playoffs matchup. The top half of their map is too much right now. This should also be the better fantasy matchup by a hair, JDG plays a smart style like the LCK teams tend towards, but you just saw Gen G win a game with six kills yesterday and I've been saying all year they might get one with 5. I don't mind taking a shot on playing FPX here as they historically have had the advantage over JDG, and I think they will be the lowest owned of the LPL squads.

Top JDG Plays:

  • Kanavi - JNG
  • LvMao - SUP
  • Zoom - TOP
  • Loken - ADC

5:00 AM: Talon Esports vs. Team Flash

DraftKings threw us a curveball here in adding the PCS/VCS midseason showdown final to the slate. So while I'm quite happy to have a three-game slate for some additional options, the late add of these PCS/VCS games has me scrambling. Talon has already beaten Flash twice in the group stage with a 44-10 kill score. Talon was the third-place team in the PCS spring split, but finished second in the playoffs losing 3-2 in the finals vs. Machi.

They also split both games in the group stage with MCX the team than Flash beat in the semifinals to get here. Flash added some players to the roster right before the tournament began, and they have been in flux still within the tournament. Their defeat of MCX was shocking to say the least, and gives me pause in recommending the side of Talon. With this being a late add to the slate I and it is a relatively unknown I'm hoping it gets ignored a little bit. This should be the bloodiest of all the series and a main target for the players involved. I like Talon to win, the PCS is the stronger of the two regions and that carries some weight. TLN has a much better baron percentage, and vastly superior vision numbers than does Flash.

The VCS squad as I mentioned has come togther during the tournament a bit, and I wont rule out the upset here. Several of their members have MSI and World's experience so they are talented veterans who wont fold under pressure. Talon, too has ex worlds competitors from Flash Wolves and G-Rex plus their roster has been together all season. I like that continuity and Talon to get the win here, but I will shoot my shot on some gpp exposure for Flash.

Top Talon Plays:

  • River - JNG
  • Unified - ADC
  • Kaiwing - SUP
  • Hanabi - TOP

Top Flash Plays:

  • Slayder - ADC
  • Palette - SUP
  • Yijin - JNG

6:00 AM: TES (-170) vs. GEN G

The second-place teams from each region face off here, featuring probably the two hottest mid laners on the planet. We LPL fans have been touting Knight as one of the best, and he came through for us with an insane LeBlanc triple kill that single-handedly held his team in the tournament. BDD has been electric all season as well, especially his Azir play.

I'll be looking forward to this as much as the Faker/Knight matchup. With TES adding Jackeylove, they have looked great, and his shot-calling and play have been nearly perfect. Funnily enough, both of these teams shuffle support players in and out, never able to settle on just one. I will give a small advantage to the TES side in the bot matchup. Karsa has been sub-optimal this split, and that's being kind. Clid has excellent as usual and is very familiar with LPL style due to his years spent there. I think that recent form favors GEN G's jungler here. Top lane Rascal has been decent for GEN G, and he looked good on Friday, but I think 369 has the advantage in the match. LPL top laners hit different, and 369 has a ben phenomenal on Aatrox and Mordekaiser.

We already saw that Korean teams were not ready for Morde. Down to that mid matchup, and I think it will swing on the champion pool. Syndra has been such a high priority this tournament, and Knight's is on another level entirely. Gen G is a very smart team, but they are going to face problems trying to ban out vs. Knight and TES. 369 Knight and Jackeylove will all require bans, and as long as Karsa doesn't throw away the draft capital on Lee Sin TES should be in favorable positions coming out to the draft. I think they are the more talented team and should pick up the win here. Gen G only averages just over 14 deaths in their losses, which will make this the slower match. I will go lighter on this matchup, as it projects to be much less bloody than the other.

Top TES Plays:

  • 369- TOP
  • Knight - MID
  •  TES Team Slot

Summary

  1. In best of five series, game stacks and weird lineups with top or jungle captains are Mucb less likely to work than on the single game.
  2. The most significant risk for substitution will be the Gen G/TES supports Life/Kellin and Yuyuanjia/Quiqui Stay tuned on Twitter.
  3. The PCS/VCS game will be the bloodiest and could be a source of some nice lower owned tournament plays on the DraftKings slate.
