Ha-Seong Kim Takes Grounders on Wednesday, Nearing Return
Ha-Seong Kim (back) is coming along well in his recovery from lower-back inflammation. After Kim took infield grounders on Wednesday, manager Kevin Cash said the Rays are "happy with the progression." Kim, who landed on the 10-day IL on Aug. 20, could return as early as Saturday. After recovering from offseason shoulder surgery, Kim debuted July 4 and has hit a disappointing .214/.290/.321 with two homers, five RBI, five runs scored, and six stolen bases in 93 plate appearances. Back issues have forced the 29-year-old to the IL twice since late July. Standout shortstop prospect Carson Williams has filled in for Kim and gone 6-for-19 with a homer, five RBI, a stolen base, and 8:1 K:BB in his first 20 trips to the plate in the majors.
