Tylor Megill Placed on 15-Day Injured List, Out 4-5 Weeks With Elbow Sprain
Tylor Megill (elbow) on the 15-day injured list with a right-elbow sprain, retroactive to June 15. The team recalled righty Justin Garza from Triple-A Syracuse in a corresponding move. Megill is going to miss at least four to five weeks, according to manager Carlos Mendoza. If Megill's inflammation persists over the next seven to 10 days, he'll be on the shelf even longer than that. It's another blow to a Mets rotation that recently lost righty Kodai Senga (hamstring) for the foreseeable future. Megill has struggled to work deep in starts this year, totaling 68 1/3 frames in 14 appearances, but has logged a solid 3.95 ERA with 89 strikeouts and 33 walks. The Mets will use a spot starter in his place against the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday, per Anthony DiComo of MLB.com. After that, righty Frankie Montas (lat) could rejoin their pitching staff. Montas hasn't pitched this year as a result of the lat sprain he suffered in spring training. It's up in the air whether he'll come back as a starter or reliever.
