Reese McGuire Returns to Cubs on Minor-League Deal
Reese McGuire to a minor league deal and assigned him to Triple-A Iowa, according to Tommy Birch of the Des Moines Register. McGuire spent spring training with the Cubs and was on their Triple-A roster through last week. Now, after a brief trip to free agency, he's back in the Cubs' organization. McGuire plays below-average defense, but he offers solid catching depth, largely thanks to his bat. He owns a .282/.366/.479 slash line with three homers, 10 walks, and 10 strikeouts in the minors this year. He's particularly effective against right-handed pitchers, hitting .311 with a .919 OPS against them.
