Chayce McDermott Optioned Back to Triple-A
Chayce McDermott was optioned back to Triple-A on Wednesday. The 26-year-old was called up on Tuesday to work in long relief of opener Keegan Akin. McDermott entered in the second inning, struggling to the tune of three earned runs on four hits (two home runs) and five walks while striking out only two in 4 2/3 innings pitched. The righty will head back to Norfolk, where strong strikeout rates during his minor league career (33.5 percent) have been diminished by poor walk rates (13.8 percent), with the command problems very evident on Tuesday. With the Orioles' lack of rotation options that will likely persist throughout the remainder of the season, chances are McDermott will get another shot this year, but he'll remain off the fantasy radar until he proves he's major league-ready.
