Although Josh Berry was forced to start 38th at Kansas after hitting the wall during qualifying, he didn't stay there for long. Berry was the best passer in the race with a pass differential of 38 positions. He got an assist early in the race after A.J. Allmendinger's engine failure when some drivers pitted on that early caution while he did not, which propelled him into the top 20 by lap 10. Although he just missed earning points in Stage 1, he drove up to fourth by the end of Stage 2 and stood poised to challenge for the win until a speeding penalty during the pit stops on the Stage 2 caution. No matter. Benefiting from both attrition and his own sheer bravado, he made a gallant charge from 17th to finish 6th on the final 49-lap run to end the race. He was gaining several seconds on eventual winner Kyle Larson in this stint and might have passed everyone else if the race had been 30 laps longer. Since Berry has already won, the race has essentially no playoff implications.--Sean Wrona - RotoBaller
