The LIV Golf League will hold this week’s event at Jack Nicklaus Golf Club Korea. The course was designed by Jack Nicklaus and opened in 2010. Jack Nicklaus Golf Club Korea was the fourth ranked course in South Korea according to Golf Digest in 2024, and is located in a modern residential development in Songdo International Business District. Songdo is a multi-million dollar smart city project.
Jack Nicklaus Golf Club Korea hosted the 2015 Presidents Cup, marking the first time that the event was held in Asia. Nine LIV players participated in the event that week. Phil Mickelson, Patrick Reed, Bubba Watson and Dustin Johnson represented the United States, while Branden Grace, Louis Oosthuizen, Anirban Lahiri, Danny Lee and Marc Leishman represented the International team. The Genesis Championship on the DP World Tour is also held at this venue. In 2024, Byeung Hun An defeated Tom Kim to win the event at -17.
The event will take place from Friday to Sunday and will air on the Fox Sports Network, as well as the Fox Sports App and LIV Golf Plus. Globally, the event will be broadcast in over 160 international territories, Live and On-Demand, free of charge, via LIV Golf Plus.

The course this week will be playing as a 7,344-yard, Par 72. The course features water on eleven holes and an extremely scenic view with the business district in the backdrop on many holes. Given that it is a Nicklaus design course, we can expect that it play difficult and require a good bit of strategy. With the amount of water in play this week, I would consider it very much a risk-reward course off the tee.
Jack Nicklaus actually provides a hole-by-hole flyover and breakdown of this course which is very informative. On many holes you hear him talking about players biting off as much as they want off the tee, in an attempt to cut corners or gamble with bunkers. Gambling with bunkers does not only impact the length of holes but also can alter the difficulty of approach shots. In certain instances, playing aggressive and challenging bunkers off the tee can allow players to avoid bringing water into play on their second shot into the green. If they elect to play safe off the tee, the angle of the approach shot will require them to go over water when shooting into the green.
This leads me to two conclusions, length off the tee could be advantageous this week. Longer players should theoretically have the ability to fly bunkers off the tee or cut corners on dog legs that other players may not be able to do. Length, however, is not a prerequisite for winning this week. Tom Kim finished runner-up at the Genesis Championship played at this course in 2024 and he is traditionally known as more of an accuracy guy off the tee.
Between the difficulty of Nicklaus designed golf courses and the amount of strategy required this week, I fully expect a big name to win the event and a stacked leaderboard on the weekend. I don't believe that this is a golf course that someone random can pop up and steal a win at. In addition, this will be the final test before the PGA Championship for all eligible players. The big guns should be locked in and ready to go.

Patrick Reed +2000 (FanDuel)
While he's not the longest hitter off the tee, Reed's iron play has been fantastic. He gained 1.20 strokes on approach at the Masters, where he finished two shots back of the winner. Reed followed that performance up by gaining 1.69 strokes on approach last week in Mexico. Reed is traditionally known as a short game specialist and more of grinder on the golf course. If his iron play continues and he does the things he normally specializes in well, the win is coming soon.

I believe a difficult, strategic course, that requires patience is perfectly suited for a guy like Patrick Reed. Reed is one of the mentally tougher players of this generation. I think back to the controversy over his embedded ball in the rough at Torrey Pines that had people up in arms during the third round of the 2021 Farmers Insurance Open. Despite the noise, he went on to grind his way to victory on Sunday. An unphased veteran will be perfectly suited for a course like this.
This is also the final tune-up before the PGA Championship. The 34-year-old finished T2 at Quail Hollow back in 2017 when it hosted the PGA Championship. Coming off a top five finish at the first major of the season, Reed has to be feeling pretty bullish about his chances in two weeks.
Dustin Johnson +3000 (DraftKings)
I'm going to keep beating the DJ drum until he gets one across the finish line. The win is coming and it's coming soon. The veteran hit the ball well off the tee yet again last week, marking the third time in his last four starts that he has gained strokes in that department. He also gained strokes on approach for the third consecutive start last week in Mexico. The 1.64 strokes he gained on approach was his best performance in that category in his last 25 starts.

The ball striking has been good for Johnson and it seems like all it will take to have a real shot to win is a good short game week. DJ switched putters midway through the tournament last weekend in Mexico, electing to go with an L.A.B Golf Putter instead of his traditional TaylorMade. It seems like the ball striking will have him in the mix come the weekend, we'll see if the new putter is enough to get him back into the winner's circle.
Brooks Koepka +3000 (DraftKings)
The finishes haven't been anything special for Koepka, but when you dive deeper, the five-time major champion is hitting the ball great. He's gained strokes on approach in five straight starts and has now gained off the tee in three of his last four. His 1.07 strokes gained last week off the tee was his best performance since October. The ball striking is locked in, he just needs some putts to fall.

This will be the final start before the PGA Championship for the five-time major champion. Last year he won in Singapore this very weekend, in his final start before the PGA Championship. In similar fashion, Brooks had lost strokes putting in four straight LIV starts prior to teeing it up in Singapore, despite hitting the ball well off the tee and on approach. Can Brooks find his putter right before the season's second major and have history repeat itself?
