LIV Golf Betting Picks: 2024 Nashville Preview and Best Bets

The LIV Golf League will hold this week’s event at The Grove, in Nashville, TN. LIV enters with some momentum and added coverage this week, following Bryson Dechambeau’s U.S. Open victory last week at Pinehurst. LIV had already been expecting a rowdy Nashville event, but grounds passes have now officially sold out. In addition to Bryson teeing it up for the first time since his U.S. Open victory, Jon Rahm also returns to action this week following his WD last week for a toe injury.

The Grove is a private golf club in Nashville, TN, designed by LIV Golf CEO, Greg Norman. The Grove typically plays as a par-72 but will be playing as a par-71 this week, with one par-five being converted down to a par-four. Prior to LIV Nashville, The Grove hosted the Simmons Bank Open on the Korn Ferry Tour, as well as a few amateur events.

The event will be played Friday-Sunday and will air on the CW Network, as well as the CW App and LIV Golf Plus. Globally, the event will be broadcast in over 160 international territories, Live and On-Demand, free of charge, via LIV Golf Plus.

LIV Golf Nashville Course Breakdown

Below is the official Round 1 scorecard provided by LIV Golf.

Hole 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 Out
Par 4 4 3 4 3 4 5 4 4 35
Yardage 421 529 171 344 227 453 570 414 471 3600
Hole 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 In
Par 4 5 4 3 4 3 4 4 5 36
Yardage 404 629 467 203 385 132 394 502 581 3715

The Grove will play as a 7,315-yard par-71. The fairways feature Zoysia grass and the greens Bermuda. The McCrory Creek runs through the course as well as other man-made water hazards and bunkering throughout. Despite the penalty areas and bunkering, the fairways are fairly large and easy to hit, and the course seems straight-forward. I’ve done some pretty extensive research trying to find the catch with this course but can’t seem to come up with much of anything. Despite being located in a hilly area of Tennessee, the course is pretty flat. I expect good ball strikers to tear this place apart.

The most recent winner of the event on the Korn Ferry tour held at The Grove won at 17-under. Keep in mind this event was also played over four days as opposed to three, and was played as a par-72, not 71. I’m a bit shocked that the scores weren’t lower than they were, but I am still trusting my gut this week that the course is going to play easy.

As I mentioned previously, I think good ball strikers are going to eat this place alive. This week I am looking for guys who are going to be able to hit greens and make birdies. Greens in regulation percentage and total birdies will be two stats that I will be placing heavy focus on. I think it would also be smart to look for players who have a history of putting well on Bermuda greens. Lastly, I’m leaning bombers this week. The fairways don’t seem difficult to hit and the rough isn’t overly penal. If players can avoid the water, there isn’t a ton of trouble to get into. I believe length will play more of an advantage than accuracy this week.

LIV Golf Betting Strategy and Selections - Nashville

This week, we're going bombers and ball strikers. My card is a bit more top heavy than it has been previously, but I couldn't choose which direction I wanted to go between these four guys, so I've added all of them!

Sergio Garcia +1800

My first selection this week is going to be Sergio Garcia. Sergio has experienced some tough luck over the past 14 months in terms of LIV finishes. He has unbelievably lost three times in a head-to-head playoff, finishing runner-up. The first was in Singapore, where Talor Gooch was a mere yard from finding the water on the first playoff hole. The second was in Mayakoba, where Joaquin Niemann hit a tree on the first playoff hole and his ball bounced left back into the rough instead of different direction which would have resulted in a penalty. The third was a lead he squandered on Sunday in Doral in which Dean Burmester ultimately came out victorious. A few feet of difference and we could be discussing Sergio this week as a multiple time winner on LIV.

Despite the tough luck, there’s a ton to like about Sergio this week. At his best, he’s a phenomenal ball striker who has some wins on Bermuda greens. In fact, his last win at the Sanderson Farms Championship, came on Bermudagrass greens. Sergio ranks third this season in the LIV standings in Greens in Regulation percentage and is coming in playing some good golf. He finished T12 at last week’s U.S. Open and fifth in the most recent LIV event in Houston.

Paul Casey +3500

Paul Casey put up a total dud on Sunday in Houston but has still been one of the better players all year in the LIV Golf League. Casey has three top-ten finishes, and five top-14 finishes so far this season. He leads the LIV Golf League in Green in Regulation percentage and ranks sixth in fairway percentage. A poor putter has really been the only thing that has held Casey back from winning so far this year.

When I saw Casey come in north of +3000 on the odds list, I had to pull the trigger. Casey is too talented of a player and is striking the ball too well to not float around the leaderboard yet again. As we know in the game of golf, putting is the most volatile statistic on a week-to-week basis. If Casey can putt even borderline with the field this week, I believe he has a great shot to get it done on Sunday.

Thomas Pieters +3500

Thomas Pieters went through a very tough stretch of golf after joining LIV and sort of drifted toward irrelevancy. However, I wrote about the Pieters revival prior to the Singapore event, which he finished fifth. The Belgian bomber is starting to hit his irons better, resulting in more greens in regulation. He has never lacked distance off the tee, so if the irons are clicking, he’s a ball striking machine. I still don’t know if the irons are entirely there yet, but I think he should be competitive at this course.

After taking him in Singapore, I didn’t like the course fit for Pieters in Houston. Despite his length off the tee, he isn’t exactly a positional course or peppering fairways guy. I think having the ability to miss the fairways this week without being in penal rough or significant trouble is going to benefit Pieters and his distance. I was hoping for a bit better number, but I am expecting a bounce back performance this week.

Matthew Wolff +4000

Wolff is the epitome of inconsistency, but I have been on him too often over the past two years to hop off now. I told myself that I am going to take Wolff on tracks that favor bombers and I’m sticking to it. It is clear the move to the RangeGoats has benefitted Wolff greatly. His mental health is way better and he is in better spirits out there playing under captain Bubba Watson. Wolff has two top-five finishes already this season. He is the type of player who can win this week or finish outside the top-30, but at this price, I am willing to take the shot at the former.
