LIV Golf Betting Picks - 2023 Tulsa

Matt Miller's LIV golf betting picks and betting strategies for Tulsa. He digs into the LIV golf betting lines to find the best bets and top values.

The LIV Golf League will hold this week’s event at Cedar Ridge Country Club in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Cedar Ridge has not hosted professional men’s golf tournaments in the past but did host the 1983 US Women’s Open and has been used for state championships and national qualifying events. Golf Digest lists Cedar Ridge as the fifth best course in the state of Oklahoma.

LIV Golf heads back to the United States with some momentum after back-to-back successful overseas events. The LIV Tulsa event is coming at the perfect time as Oklahoma native Talor Gooch has now won two straight events and will look to make it three in a row at home. Cedar Ridge is reportedly expecting around 10,000 fans a day as the LIV Golf League’s popularity continues to grow.

The event will be played Friday-Sunday and will air on the CW Network in 100% of U.S. markets, as well as the CW App and LIV Golf Plus. Globally the event will be broadcasted in over 160 international territories Live and On-Demand, free of charge, via LIV Golf Plus.

LIV Golf Tulsa Course Breakdown

Below is the official round one scorecard provided by LIV Golf.

Hole 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 Out
Par 4 4 4 3 5 3 4 4 4 35
Yardage 457 400 422 220 538 203 467 497 438 3642
Hole 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 In
Par 4 3 4 4 5 3 4 4 4 35
Yardage 507 197 369 406 571 185 462 443 431 3571

Cedar Ridge Country Club will play as a 7213-yard par-70 this week. Located close to Tulsa, Cedar Ridge used to sit on a 200-acre dairy farm until Joe Finger was commissioned in the late 1960s to turn the farm into a golf course. In 2016 the course underwent renovation, removing trees and rebuilding bunkers. The course features Bermuda grass fairways and Bent grass greens.

While the 7213-yard course is not going to overpower anyone this week, I do not see this event playing as a pure birdie fest. Cedar Ridge presents a good bit of trouble for the players to get into. Bunker placement will force players into making decisions to hit less than driver off the tee on certain holes or hit driver and risk finding one of the fairway bunkers in their landing zone. In addition to the bunkering, water comes into play on nine holes this week. With only two par-5s on the scorecard and many hazards to deal with, I think the course will play tougher than many expect.

LIV Golf Betting Strategy & Selections - Tulsa

With the PGA Championship being held next week, LIV Tulsa will be the last tune up eligible players have before a major championship. As a result, I expect the big names to be locked in and ready to compete this week. The LIV Orlando event had a similar feel, being held the week before the Masters, and ultimately Brooks Koepka came out victorious. I will certainly be eyeing players eligible for the PGA Championship when making my selections this week.

Joaquin Niemann +1600

Joaquin Niemann appeared to turn a LIV corner two weeks ago in Singapore. After three straight finishes outside the top-30 in the Adelaide, Orlando, and Tucson events, Niemann finished T8 in Singapore. The 24-year-old fired a pair of 66s over the weekend and looked to be rounding into form with the second major of the season upcoming.

Niemann is one of the LIV players that is in a tricky spot. While he is safely qualified for the majors due to his spot in the world golf rankings, he does not own any special exemptions to keep him qualified moving forward. If LIV continues to be withheld world golf ranking points, Niemann will fall in the golf rankings and have difficulty qualifying for majors. As a result, he will need to continue to perform well in the majors to get his points and exemptions for the future.

A top ten finish at next week’s PGA Championship would guarantee Niemann a spot in next year’s field regardless of place in the OWGR. Finding form this week is essential for the young star. He also finds himself just 25th in the LIV individual rankings, a spot he would surely like to improve on. I suspect the Chilean gets it going this week and has a shot to win on Sunday.

Abraham Ancer +2800

The 32-year-old is coming off possibly his worst LIV showing ever. The Fireballs didn’t use a single score from Ancer over the weekend and he didn’t hold back his disappointment on Sunday. In an on-course player interview, Ancer was irritated that he didn’t help his team out at all. However, I believe that frustration will have Ancer extra motivated to play well this week.

Outside of banking on a bounce-back performance, there is a lot to like from a course fit perspective with Ancer. Unlike Singapore, this isn’t a track that favors bombers. The off the tee strategy and hazard avoidance should play into Ancer’s strengths, as he is possibly the most accurate hitter in the field.

I also like that we’re heading to Oklahoma. While the Oklahoma native Gooch is the headliner, Ancer played his collegiate golf at the University of Oklahoma and has had great success in the state. He finished T9 at last year’s PGA Championship held at Southern Hills in Oklahoma.

Eugenio Chacarra +6600

After a bad start to the season, the 23-year-old turned in his best result yet with a T13 in Singapore. He shot a 64 on Sunday with seven birdies and an eagle. Chacarra was on absolute fire and now heads to Oklahoma, a state he should be very familiar with. The Spaniard played college golf at Oklahoma State University, where he finished as a first team All-American.

While I understand this a longshot and doesn’t quite fit the major championship tune up narrative, I think Chacarra is live here. When he gets hot like we saw on Sunday in Singapore, he can go as low as anyone in the field. We saw this play out over a three-day period last year when he destroyed the field in Bangkok.
