Waiver Wire Pickups for Shallow Leagues (40-60% rostered)

Jon Berti, 2B/3B/SS/OF, Miami Marlins (47% rostered)

Simply put: if you've participated in fantasy baseball, then chances are Berti is a familiar name to you. He led all of MLB in steals last season with 41, and in total, has nabbed 76 stolen bags in his career and has been caught stealing just 14 times. In 2022, he ranked in the 97th percentile in Sprint Speed, and in a small sample size, the 89th percentile in 2023.

Shockingly, he has yet to pick up a stolen base thus far in the young 2023 campaign, but there's no reason to doubt that Berti won't get going soon—especially with the new rules in place and the increase they've had on stolen bases. As a career .243 hitter with only 16 home runs to his name in five seasons, the 33-year-old won't rack you up points with his power, but he can give you an edge with his speed.

Anthony Rendon, 3B, Los Angeles Angels (59% rostered)

Rendon recently returned from the four-game suspension that was handed to him by MLB for an altercation with a fan. The former two-time Silver Slugger Rendon has never quite found his footing since arriving in Los Angeles, dealing with a variety of injuries that has limited him to just 157 games played with the Angels the past three seasons.

However, not all hope is lost for the 32-year-old, and the Halos would certainly benefit from another bat—other than Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani—picking up the slack. Rendon was 2-for-4 with two singles and a RBI on Saturday in a 9-5 win over the Toronto Blue Jays.

Waiver Wire Pickups for Deeper Leagues (20-40% rostered)

Josh Rojas, 2B/3B, Arizona Diamondbacks (40% rostered)

The Arizona native Rojas has been huge for his hometown team in five games this season. The 28-year-old is currently slashing .368/.381/.526, recording seven hits in 19 at-bats, three of which were for extra bases. He's driven in four runs, stolen a base, and struck out just twice in 21 plate appearances.

In the Diamondbacks' 12-8 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday, Rojas went 3-for-5 with two singles, a double, two runs scored, and a RBI. He's hot to begin the season, and it may be wise to ride the streak while you can.

Ha-Seong Kim, 2B/3B/SS, San Diego Padres (22% rostered)

Kim is a bit of dark horse in the Padres' lineup. Last week, the 27-year-old led San Diego to a walk-off win against Arizona with a solo home run in the ninth inning; It was his first long ball of the season. The dinger had an exit velocity of 105.2 mph and traveled 374 feet. On top of his exciting, no-doubt blast, Kim is batting a serviceable .250/.300/.464 with three doubles, three runs scored, two walks, and a RBI.

In 2022, the South Korean infielder hit 11 homers and drove in 59 runs along with 51 free passes. Not bad numbers, but San Diego would love for Kim to take an even bigger step forward in 2023. His big homer is a great moment for him to build off of.
