2025 Charles Schwab Challenge Power Rankings: Top 10 Players To Watch

TourPicks ranks his top-10 Players to watch for at the 2025 Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial Country Club Insights on the top-10 golfers for the week and reasons why they are primed to win.

As the dust has settled in Charlotte, North Carolina, we have crowned our second Major Champion of the season at Quail Hollow. Life on the PGA Tour is no rest for the weary, and we are right back at it this week as many players in the field from the PGA Championship make their way to Colonial Country Club for the 2025 Charles Schwab Challenge.

In this article, I'll do my best to break down my Top 10 Power Rankings for players based on recent form and specific player profiles that I believe are the best fits for Colonial CC, given the historical context and data.  It's a tournament and venue that we have become intimately familiar with over the years, which helps us to isolate the players in the field with the highest projected probability of success.

Let’s dive right into my Top 10 Power Rankings for the 2025 Charles Schwab Challenge:

No. 10 - Davis Riley

  • Defending Champion of this event who always seems to elevate his game and play his best in the state of Texas.

  • #1 in strokes gained Total at Colonial CC over the past 6 years.
  • Entered the final round of the PGA Championship in third place. Back in form and has fallen back in love with the process and enjoying the game.

No. 9 - J.T. Poston

  • Putting it really well again after early season struggles. Poston has gained with the Putter in four of his last five starts.

  • T12 at this event is 2024 and has a T5 in 2020. With his excellent short game, Colonial makes a solid course fit for Poston.
  • Led the field in SG: Approach and SG: Putting through three rounds at the PGA Championship.

No. 8 - Jordan Spieth

  • Spieth has a win (2016) and three other runner-up finishes at Colonial in his career (2015, 2017, 2021).

  • "I think the results show that I love this place. It seems to fit my game really well and I really enjoy playing it." Spieth on Colonial in 2023.
  • Spieth has been really good OTT and with his putter. Before the PGA Championship, he gained strokes on the field in both categories in his previous five events. He needs to hit his irons well to content, but we know he loves Texas.

No. 7 - Harris English

  • English continues to be sharp with his iron play. He was top 5 in Approach and SG: T2G at the PGA Championship.

  • 12th at The Masters, 11th at the Truist Championship, and currently inside the Top 10 at the PGA Championship. His form is trending up!
  • 4th best in the field in SG: Putting on Bent-grass greens this season.

No. 6 - Si Woo Kim

  • Kim has been playing great post-Masters. He has four straight weeks finishing 17th or better over the past month.

  • Ranks 8th in SG: Around the green, which is an asset he will have to lean on at Colonial, that requires elite greenside scrambling to score well.
  • Highly accurate Driver, which comes in handy as things can get knarly if you get it too offline here. Kim ranks inside the Top 10 in distance from the edge of the fairway on drives in which he misses the short grass.

No. 5 - Maverick McNealy

  • McNealy normally plays very well in Texas and is comfortable playing golf in gusty winds. Ranks Top 10 in the field in both categories.
  • Trustworthy player on shorter courses that emphasize precision OTT as evidenced by his 3rd place finish at the RBC Heritage a month ago.
  • McNealy has played this event every season since 2020, making four cuts and gaining strokes on Approach in all five starts.

No. 4 - Hideki Matsuyama

  • Dissappointing missed cut at the PGA Championship, but Matsuyama got back on track with his irons in his two previous starts, gaining 12+ strokes on Approach.
  • 8th best in the field in SG: T2G over the past 36 rounds played. He needs to putt it well to capitalize and contend.
  • Matsuyama has skipped this tournament in recent years, but loves golf in Texas. He ranks 3rd in the field in SG: Total in Texas.

No. 3 - Daniel Berger

  • Berger is in great control of his golf ball from Tee to Green. He ranks 5th in the field in SG: Approach over the past 36 rounds.

  • He hits a ton of fairways, and when he does miss, the dispersion width is really tight, which is a major plus at Colonial.
  • Winner here in 2020 in the first tournament back after a long layoff due to the pandemic. Good vibes for DB!

No. 2 - Tommy Fleetwood

  • Fleetwood has really improved his chipping around the greens. He ranks #1 in SG: ARG over the past 16 rounds played.

  • We know what a reliable iron player he is and Fleetwood continues to pile up Top-10 results consistently.
  • It still feels like a matter of "When, not If..." in terms of Tommy Fleetwood finding a victory on the PGA Tour. Note, I've said this for about four years now. C'mon Tommy Lad!

No. 1 - Scottie Scheffler

  • Scheffler proved once again why he is the best golfer walking on planet Earth after an incredible performance at the PGA Championship
  • He's in a different class from Tee-to-Green, but he really becomes an unstoppable force when he's putting it well like he is currently.
  • Scheffler is going for three wins in a row this week. He's done just about everything at Colonial except win. 2nd, 3rd, and 2nd in his last three tournaments here. It's his time and he will keep the gas pedal down and win again...assuming he doesn't decide to take the week off and give the rest of the field a chance!

Enjoy the Charles Schwab Challenge, and thanks for reading! Good luck, RotoBaller family!
