Will Karim Benzema Win the Golden Boot? 2022 World Cup Awards

The World Cup is finally here. A few months later than usual but here nonetheless. And the team at RotoBaller has you covered for all your World Cup needs. We'll be bringing you DFS articles, game previews, and betting picks throughout the competition.

The Golden Boot is an award given to the top goal-scorer at the World Cup. The award is one of the oldest traditions of the tournament. Harry Kane won the Golden Boot in the 2018 World Cup, netting six goals in seven games for England as they finished fourth.

Karim Benzema was awarded the 2022 Ballon D'or in October, an honor given to the best male soccer player of the year. Benzema shifts his focus to aid France in becoming back-to-back World Cup champions and is a frontrunner to win the Golden Boot in this year's tournament. Will Karim Benzema lead France in scoring? Should I pick Karim Benzema to win the Golden Boot?

Will Karim Benzema Lead France in Scoring?

France is luxurious in elite attack options. Benzema is joined by sensational youngster Kylian Mbappé and the second-highest scorer in the 2018 World Cup, Antoine Griezmann.

With Kingsley Coman and Olivier Giroud rounding out an elite attack, Benzema has stiff competition to lead his team in scoring. The 34-year-old scored a career-high 44 goals for Real Madrid across 46 appearances in the 2021-2022 season.

France is expected to play in a two-striker system, with Benzema and Mbappé pairing up top. Kylian Mbappé has scored 11 times in his last 10 appearances for the French. Although Benzema is at the pinnacle of his play, the odds lean in the favor of Mbappé outscoring his fellow forward.

Should I Pick Karim Benzema to Win the Golden Boot?

The 2022 Ballon D'or winner currently has the third-highest odds to win the Golden Boot. Benzema sits behind Harry Kane and teammate Kylian Mbappé on the sportsbook.

France is the reigning world champions and has a loaded squad once again, despite injuries to midfielders N'golo Kanté, Paul Pogba, and Christopher Nkunku. The French are a near lock to make it out of group play and have the potential to finish top- four once again.

Karim Benzema is without a doubt one of the world's best strikers. Benzema is rightfully a favorite to win the award. Nonetheless, the surrounding talent on France's attack will siphon goals away from him. The confidence level in the French squad to make a deep run is diminishing as the injuries accumulate. There are other goalscorers further down the sportsbook that I prefer.

Good luck with those World Cup bets and remember to bet responsibly!
