Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 8:
Colston Loveland, Chicago Bears
Chicago Bears tight end Colston Loveland (neck) was a limited participant during Friday's practice session. He practiced in full on Thursday, but he has been downgraded now. It's never a good sign when a player gets downgraded mid-week, but he'll still get another chance to practice on Saturday ahead of Monday's game against the Seattle Seahawks.
Fantasy managers should check back on Saturday for another update on his status. Loveland is coming off back-to-back 60-plus-yard performances and is finally giving fantasy managers consistent value. His absence could mean that rookie Sam Roush gets the start in Week 8, but there's still time for Loveland to get cleared ahead of Monday's game.
Davis Allen, Los Angeles Rams
Los Angeles Rams tight end Davis Allen came into Sunday's game with only six receptions on the year. The 25-year-old came out of nowhere and posted a career game on Sunday. Allen hauled in four of his five targets for 20 yards with two touchdowns during the Week 7 win over the Las Vegas Raiders.
Normally, Allen is an afterthought, but he was able to make the most of his chances during Sunday's win. This big performance could lead to more opportunities for Allen down the road. He might be someone worth stashing in deep leagues, but he won't be an ideal streaming option against the Los Angeles Chargers next weekend.
Josh Cuevas, Baltimore Ravens
Baltimore Ravens rookie tight end Josh Cuevas has been more involved in the offense in the past three games, hauling in eight passes on 10 targets. Cuevas has season stats totaling 119 receiving yards, which does lead the Ravens' tight end room, and one touchdown.
While the increase in production is encouraging, he should be left on the waiver wire until he sees more on-field opportunity. He sits behind both veteran tight end Mark Andrews and rookie Matt Hibner in snap percentage, averaging only 29% over these past three games.
In addition to Cuevas having a low snap percentage, the Ravens rank 28th in pass attempts per game at 28.9 attempts. This leaves little room for his production to grow. It is unlikely that Josh Cuevas will see a fantasy-friendly role in the 2026 season, so he can remain on the waiver wire even in deep formats.
Michael Mayer, Las Vegas Raiders
Las Vegas Raiders tight end Michael Mayer still has fantasy value to offer as his team prepares for a tough road matchup against the New York Jets. Mayer is coming off a quiet Week 7, recording three catches for 32 yards. Klint Kubiak continues to use both Mayer and Brock Bowers in games, and it isn't readily clear how much the target share will change if Jack Bech (forearm) returns from IR or if Dont'e Thornton Jr. makes his season debut.
All that being said, Mayer is very consistent, catching 31 of 37 targets for 298 yards and one touchdown through seven games. Plus, the Raiders will face a Jets defense that has allowed 328 yards to tight ends this season, and 200-plus passing yards overall in each of their last two games. Mayer doesn't produce enough to be a weekly starter in redraft leagues, but does enough things right to be a stash candidate in dynasty formats.
Brevyn Spann-Ford, Dallas Cowboys
Dallas Cowboys tight end Brevyn Spann-Ford has been seeing his snap count grow in recent weeks. The third-year tight end has been consistently getting more reps than Luke Schoonmaker throughout most of the season. Jake Ferguson remains the top option at tight end, but Spann-Ford has been getting the ball thrown his way more frequently. In Week 6, Spann-Ford hauled in four of his five targets for 35 yards.
He saw his most playing time of the season this past week when he played 53 percent of the offensive snaps during the win over the Philadelphia Eagles. He hauled in both of his targets for 11 yards in the victory. The 26-year-old could be a dynasty stash for managers willing to be patient with him. However, he is not worth starting in standard leagues this weekend.
