Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 6:
A.J. Brown, New England Patriots
New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel said that wide receiver A.J. Brown (ankle) is questionable to play in Week 6 on Sunday at home against the division-rival New York Jets, according to Mark Daniels of MassLive.com. The Patriots want to see how Brown responds after Friday's practice. The 29-year-old is on the verge of returning from Injured Reserve after he suffered a high-ankle sprain in the Week 1 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
He was limited in practice on Wednesday and Thursday.
The former second-rounder from Mississippi is a question mark for Week 6, but fantasy managers will know one way or another if he will be active against the Jets if the Patriots officially activate him from IR by Saturday afternoon's deadline. If given the green light to return this weekend, Brown will be a volatile fantasy football option after a long layoff with the potential to see a reduced workload.
Eventually, though, Brown will reprise his role as the No. 1 receiver for quarterback Drake Maye.
TreVeyon Henderson, New England Patriots
New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel said that running back TreVeyon Henderson (ankle) is questionable for Sunday's divisional clash against the New York Jets in Week 6, according to Mark Daniels of MassLive.com. This should be considered a best-case scenario for Henderson's fantasy managers after he was expected to miss multiple weeks following his ankle injury in the Week 5 win over the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday.
The 23-year-old was able to practice all week in a limited fashion, but instead of being out multiple weeks, he will have a chance to suit up on Sunday against the division-rival New York Jets. On the flip side, it will be hard to trust Henderson as a fantasy starter, even if he makes a remarkable turnaround to play this weekend.
Henderson missed the season opener due to injury and has been the RB2 behind Rhamondre Stevenson, carrying the ball 42 times for 163 yards (3.9 yards per carry) and one touchdown while catching only two passes for 22 yards. Stevenson will have RB1 upside against Gang Green if Henderson is ruled out.
Kaelon Black, San Francisco 49ers
As injuries continue to mount for the San Francisco 49ers, rookie running back Kaelon Black could soon be tasked with handling a heavier workload, adding modest flex appeal to his potentially week-winning insurance value. Wide receiver Deebo Samuel Sr. (hamstring), who has carried the ball nine times on the year, is the latest Niners player to succumb to injury, now expected to miss a handful of games with a hamstring injury.
Through five weeks, Black has handled a 36.2% running back rush share, but with San Francisco's receiver room stretched so thin by injury, there is added potential for Black and Christian McCaffrey to share the field more frequently, with the latter split out wide. With four NFL teams on bye in Week 6, Black becomes a desperation flex option in deeper leagues and needs to be rostered in all formats.
Mike Washington Jr., Las Vegas Raiders
Las Vegas Raiders rookie running back Mike Washington Jr. has been a decent waiver-wire pickup as a handcuff with Ashton Jeanty banged up with ankle/foot injuries in recent weeks. But with Jeanty getting healthier this week and being removed from the injury report, the 23-year-old has gone back to being strictly a deep-league handcuff for fantasy managers who have Jeanty rostered.
The fourth-rounder from Arkansas only had one rushing attempt for five yards and caught his only target in the passing game for five yards in negative game script in the 45-17 blowout loss on the road on Sunday to the New England Patriots in Week 5. Jeanty said this week that he is feeling as healthy as he has been all year going into the Week 6 contest at home against the Buffalo Bills.
Washington has yet to see double-digit carries in his first five NFL games, and his role is expected to stay small this weekend in another matchup that could have the Raiders abandoning the run. The young back has been efficient with his limited touches, though, averaging 5.0 yards per attempt on 25 carries for 125 yards and one touchdown. Washington has added only two catches for four yards.
