Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 2:
Javonte Williams, Dallas Cowboys
Dallas Cowboys running back Javonte Williams was the only player that had a great day for fantasy football in Week 1 against the New York Giants. He rushed 12 times for 41 yards and a touchdown and caught all five of his targets for 31 yards and another score. The touchdowns saved his day from a fantasy perspective, but being a team's clear No. 1 goal line back with very little competition in the backfield tends to do that.
He also has an excellent receiving role, and Dallas doesn't have a high-end pass-catching back to take that away from him. He figures to be plenty involved in the offense in Week 2, as Dallas is facing the Washington Commanders, who had a very porous defense last season. Williams scored double-digit PPR fantasy points in both games against them last season, and should see another heavy workload in a must-win home matchup with a bitter divisional rival.
Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer is in his second year as the leader of this team, and this game will go a long way in telling whether his offense has been "solved" by NFL defenses after just one season.
DeMario Douglas, New England Patriots
New England Patriots wide receiver DeMario Douglas will take on a larger role during Week 2 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, and it could result in him jumping to the low-end WR3/flex tier in PPR leagues.
Douglas handled a respectable 62% snap share in last week's season opener against the Seahawks, catching five of seven targets for 20 yards. The receiving yards output was quite disappointing, but the overall volume and target share should catch the attention of PPR managers. Heading into Week 2, the Patriots are without A.J. Brown (ankle), leaving Douglas as the de facto No. 2 receiver in New England behind Romeo Doubs.
Given Doubs' lack of reliability after he had some drop issues in Week 1, Douglas has a chance to emerge as Drake Maye's most reliable target, even if he doesn't have the highest ceiling. He projects for at least a handful of targets on Sunday, which could put him on the streaming radar as a low-end WR3/flex.
KC Concepcion Jr., Cleveland Browns
Cleveland Browns wide receiver KC Concepcion Jr. was pretty involved in the game plan in Week 1 against the Jacksonville Jaguars and ended up with four catches for 43 yards on five targets, rushed the ball three times for 15 yards, and lost a fumble.
The Browns clearly tried to get Concepcion involved in the game, and it worked a little bit as he averaged 10.8 yards per reception. Concepcion out-targeted fellow wide receiver Denzel Boston. Look for the Browns to try to find ways to get Concepcion the ball in the team's Week 2 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Buccaneers' defense did a good job of holding down the Bengals' prolific passing game in Week 1, so they will be tough to pass against in Week 2. With Deshaun Watson at quarterback for the Browns, it's hard to get excited about any Browns receiver, but Concepcion looks as if he could be the most involved in the short passing game and the run game with his ability to run with the ball after the catch.
Look for the Browns to try to find ways to showcase Concepcion's quickness and run-after-the-catch ability.
Makai Lemon, Philadelphia Eagles
Philadelphia Eagles rookie wide receiver Makai Lemon had a forgettable NFL debut, recording three receptions (on four targets) for minus-five yards in the Eagles' 24-22 Week 1 win over the Washington Commanders. This performance came after a tumultuous training camp and preseason for Lemon, where he dealt with a hamstring injury.
The good news for Lemon is that he was a clear No. 3 wide receiver for the Eagles in Week 1, and he should operate in that role in a Week 2 matchup against the Tennessee Titans. In the season opener, Lemon played the third most offensive snaps among Philadelphia wide receivers with 35. As expected, DeVonta Smith (52 snaps) and Dontayvion Wicks (50 snaps) led the wide receivers in snaps played, while tight end Dallas Goedert also made a large impact in the passing game. Lemon played 75.9% out of the slot (22 times out of 29 total passing plays), and that trend will likely continue in Week 2.
Unsurprisingly, due to finishing the game with negative yardage, SumerSports lists Lemon as having the lowest EPA total among 105 NFL wide receivers in Week 1 at minus-3.33. Lemon could have an easier time against the Titans in Week 2, but there is a lot he needs to improve upon.
He was a high drop candidate heading into Week 2, as Lemon's rostered percentage dropped 9% in Yahoo leagues. As RotoBaller's No. 71 wide receiver for Week 2, it is safe to keep Lemon out of lineups.
Malik Washington, Miami Dolphins
Miami Dolphins wide receiver Malik Washington led the Dolphins in targets in Week 1, with eight passes coming his way from Malik Willis. Washington corralled three of those passes for 53 yards, while playing 55 of the team's 56 offensive plays (98%).
The Dolphins are excited about rookies Caleb Douglas and Chris Bell, but Washington is still heavily involved as well. Miami's offense will likely be very run-heavy throughout the season, though, and even with plenty of time on the field, Washington could struggle to put up good numbers.
He has flashed big-play potential in the past, but the offense caps his upside, especially in a tough matchup against the 49ers this week. He's RotoBaller's No. 62 WR for Week 2, making him only a desperation play this week. His workload makes him worth watching, but starting him in most formats is not a good option.
