When will Trey Benson return and play? Will Trey Benson be back again this season? Read the latest Trey Benson injury updates and return date for Week 8 (2025).
Navigating injuries has been one of the biggest challenges of the 2025 fantasy football season. Every position has felt the pressure of missing key players due to injury.
One player who initially benefited from an injury was Arizona Cardinals’ running back Trey Benson. Unfortunately, it didn’t take long for Benson to suffer an injury that landed him on the injury reserve as well.

Trey Benson Injury Update
Benson was set to lead the Cardinals’ backfield after veteran James Conner suffered a season-ending injury during Week 3. In his first game as the lead back, Benson handled eight carries for 35 yards and caught all five targets for 19 yards.

Unfortunately, his time as the starter lasted just one game. Benson suffered a knee injury during the game that required a procedure to repair his meniscus. The running back was put on injured reserve shortly after the game with the expectation that he would return later in the season.
Because Arizona is on bye in Week 8, Benson is not able to be activated off the injured reserve until Week 10. There haven’t been any major updates on Benson so far, so there is no reason to believe he is not on track to return at that time.
Trey Benson Fantasy Football Outlook
Once Trey Benson is healthy, there is little question that he won’t step back into the starting role for the Arizona Cardinals. Benson (5.5) is the only running back on the roster who has more than 10 carries and is averaging more than 3.5 yards per carry. Benson was the RB3 in yards created per touch (5.31), often ripping off positive plays behind a struggling offensive line.

That should give Benson enough volume to be a weekly RB2 with the playmaking ability to post top 12 scoring weeks at the position. The Cardinals are incentivized to give that role to the second-year running back as they determine what their offense will look like in the future. The Cardinals can move on from Conner this offseason for a $2.25 million cap hit.
Benson is a player who may have landed on the waiver wire by fantasy managers who couldn’t afford to wait for him to return from the injured reserve. If he’s available, he is worth grabbing off the waiver wire in advance of his return.
