Week 9 Wide Receiver - Rankings & Matchups Analysis

Dez Bryant didn’t disappoint in his first game back from injury. He was able to haul in four passes for 102 yards and a score on Sunday, with a team leading 14 targets from QB Dak Prescott. You would like to see a better catch-to-target ratio than that, but that rate should improve as the two continue to build some chemistry. This week they face the Cleveland Browns, who have given up the fifth most fantasy points to opposing WRs this season and the fourth most to opposing QBs. This game will bring good things to the Cowboys offense; fire up Dez with big expectations.

You’ve got to love this GB vs. IND matchup coming our way this week. Amazing fantasy options on both sides of the ball, I could go on and on. So, let’s look at this from each team’s side of the ball.

Donte Moncrief looked good in his first game back from injury. He caught 4-of-9 targets for 41 yards and a TD in the Colts loss to Kansas City. Moncrief gives QB Andre Luck another big reliable target to hit, and with T.Y. Hilton on the other sides taking the other team’s top CB Moncrief will find room to operate. Hilton left last week’s game early after sustaining a hamstring injury, but returned to practice on Thursday and is expected to play. Both will be excellent plays this week against a Packers defense giving up the 11th most fantasy points to the WR position this season.

Green Bay has a plethora of great options this week. Randall Cobb may not play this week due to a hamstring injury; he was limited in practice all week.  That leaves Jordy Nelson, Davante Adams, and Ty Montgomery as strong plays against a weak Colts defense. Nelson has scored six TDs in seven games this season, leading the team in red zone targets at 14 (tied for the league lead). Davante Adams has 25 catches over the past two weeks, for 206 yards and two scores. Whatever those two have done to build this amazing chemistry on the field, they need to keep it up. Ty Montgomery is expected to play this week after missing last weeks’ game with an illness. He should retake a role similar to what he had before he went out; catching a ton of short passes while working out of the backfield.  He was more successful in his time as a RB than anyone the Packers used last week, though he will lose a few carries to Don Jackson and Aaron Ripkowski. He will get more than enough touches to have a great day, especially in PPR formats.

Corey Coleman makes his return to the field this week, as the Browns take on the Cowboys at home on Sunday. Coleman has only played two games this season, after breaking his hand in practice before Week 3. He should be able to play fully, since he was able to keep his conditioning up while rehabbing his hand. He and Terrelle Pryor Sr. will form a formidable 1-2 WR punch, while the Browns pass to keep up with the potent Dallas offense. Though Dallas has been an above average team at limiting opposing WRs this season, game flow should allow for plenty of volume in the passing game. Both Pryor and Coleman will be solid plays this week.

My favorite deep play this week has to be Tyreek Hill. Hill has TDs in three of the past four weeks, and even hauled in a rare Alex Smith deep ball in Week 7 for a 38-yard score. Last week with Nick Foles at the helm, Hill caught five passes for 98 yards and a TD. Foles will be starting at QB again this week, against a Jaguars defense giving up the ninth most fantasy points to the WR position. Hill is an extremely interesting deeper league option this week, who could pay big dividends even in DFS leagues.

If you have to put your faith in one Jacksonville WR this week, let it be Allen Hurns and not Allen Robinson. The Kansas City Chiefs have given up the eighth most fantasy points to opposing WRs this season, allowing a total of 186 yards per game to the position. Hurns led the team in receiving last week, catching seven passes for 98 yards and a TD. Since the bye week, Hurns and Robinson have both seen 29 targets, with Hurns turning those into 16 catches for 217 yards, compared to Robinson’s 11 catches for 128 yards. Go with Hurns and don’t think twice about it.
