Fantasy football waiver wire rankings for Week 9 of the 2024 NFL season. Top free agent options to add off waivers, and our rankings will help you prioritize.

The fantasy football regular season has about six weeks left. After an action-packed Week 8, it's time to scout the waiver wire to add players who can help fantasy teams make that playoff push. We are back with more waiver wire advice with our Week 9 fantasy football waiver wire rankings for 2024 to add those players who could help lock in a playoff spot in your fantasy leagues. There were more crucial injuries in Week 8, with Jordan Love, Drake Maye, Stefon Diggs, Brian Thomas Jr., and Jordan Mason exiting early on Sunday. Jacksonville Jaguars WR Christian Kirk is out with a fractured collarbone for the season.

It's make or break for most teams, and fantasy teams have a few weeks left to make a playoff push. Week 8 left us with even more questions heading into Week 9. Is Cedric Tillman's the Browns quarterback Jameis Winston's favorite target? Is tight end Cade Otton Tampa Bay's No. 1 target with Mike Evans and Chris Godwin sidelined? Is Ladd McConkey the Chargers' best offensive weapon?

Our waiver wire rankings will help answer these questions -- they've been a staple in the fantasy industry for years, providing a quick-hit list of player names that goes deep into the free agent options each week. For those unfamiliar, one of the industry's sharpest fantasy football minds, Nick Mariano, brings you his weekly waiver wire rankings and priority adds for the top 60 potential options.

Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Outlooks

Some of the top names include Ladd McConkey, Cedric Tillman, Keon Coleman, Isaac Guerendo, Cade Otton, Ray Davis, and Jameis Winston. We recap why these players rostered under 55% in Yahoo! leagues should be on your radar when scrolling through the waiver wire for Week 9:

Cade Otton, TE, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (62% Rostered)
Week 9 Waiver Wire Ranking: 11

Otton was buried as a distant third on Tampa’s target totem pole behind Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. Then, in one game’s time, he became Baker Mayfield’s top target. It is crazy how bad luck for some can create good luck for others in the wonderful world of fantasy football.

Otton just had the two best games of his career in Weeks 7 and 8. He followed his 8-100-0 game versus Baltimore with a 9-81-2 game against Atlanta on Sunday. Whether he likes it or not, Otton is no longer the seven-yard backup plan now in the Buccaneers offense. Until Evans returns from his hamstring injury, the sure-handed Otton will be the main man in the red zone and between the 20-yard-lines.

Otton’s competition for Tampa targets will come more from running backs Bucky Irving and Rachaad White than an inexperienced group of wide receivers thrust into starting roles. Even when Evans comes back, Otton will get more passes thrown his way than usual because Godwin missed the season with his ankle injury.

Otton is by far the top tight end on waiver wires this week. Waste no time claiming him if you need an upgrade.

Keon Coleman, WR, Buffalo Bills (41% Rostered)
Week 9 Waiver Wire Ranking: 7

A week after his breakout showing against the Titans, Buffalo Bills rookie Keon Coleman had another strong game in Week 8, catching a career-high five passes for 70 yards and a touchdown. He has 14 targets since the Bills acquired Amari Cooper, taking advantage of the increased defensive attention on Cooper to carve out a role on the other side.

Isaac Guerendo, RB, San Francisco 49ers (7% Rostered)
Week 9 Waiver Wire Ranking: 15

Isaac Guerendo has re-emerged as a recommended roster addition following his performance in Week 8. Jordan Mason sustained a shoulder injury which limited him to 11 snaps when San Francisco hosted Dallas. That launched Guerendo into an expanded workload in Kyle Shanahan’s offense and Guerendo capitalized by generating 85 rushing yards and a touchdown.

Guerendo also ran 21 routes, captured three of his four targets, and produced 17 yards as a receiving weapon.

Guerendo had also operated as the 49ers’ lead back in Week 6 after Mason was sidelined by an ACL sprain. Guerendo exploded for 99 rushing yards on 10 attempts while averaging a league-best 9.9 yards per attempt, and pacing all backs in rush yards over the expected (64) according to Next Gen Stats.

The 49ers now enter their bye week and will travel to Tampa Bay in Week 10. Guerendo‘s workload will be determined by the availability of Mason and Christian McCaffrey, as both veterans remain above him on San Francisco's depth chart.

However, that should not discourage you from securing Guerendo this week if you have sufficient roster space. He can erupt for significant yardage if McCaffrey and Mason are both inactive during any upcoming matchups.

Ladd McConkey, WR, Los Angeles Chargers (62% Rostered)
Week 9 Waiver Wire Ranking: 1

Ladd McConkey has emerged as quarterback Justin Herbert's No. 1 target in the passing game, with Quentin Johnston sidelined with an ankle injury. The 22-year-old broke out in Week 8, reeling in all six of his targets for 111 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's win over the New Orleans Saints.

McConkey was dealing with a hip injury heading into Sunday's game, but the hip issue appeared minor as it didn't hamper him in Week 8. Overall, he has 30 catches for 376 yards and four touchdowns over seven games in 2024. McConkey has found the end zone three times in his last four contests and has targeted six or more times in six of seven games this season.

Johnston has missed the last two games due to an ankle injury, leading to an increase in McConkey's target share. The Chargers rookie wideout has produced and is still available in many fantasy leagues, making him the No. 1 pickup in Week 9.

Cedric Tillman, WR, Cleveland Browns (18% Rostered)
Week 9 Waiver Wire Ranking: 4

Is calling Tillman a potential league winner getting carried away? Maybe, but I'd rather swing and be wrong than not swing. He had 12 targets, eight receptions, 81 yards, and 14.1 half-PPR points last week. He followed that up with nine targets, seven receptions, 99 yards, and two touchdowns this past weekend en route to 25.4 half-PPR points.

He's had target shares of 23.0% and 21.9% in the past two weeks. He seems to have solidified himself as Cleveland's No. 1 receiver. David Njoku will continue being a major component of their passing attack, but Jerry Jeudy is best viewed as an ancillary piece. Tillman has major upside, and fantasy managers should be extremely aggressive in obtaining him.
