Today's NHL DFS Lineup Picks for DraftKings, FanDuel (10/22/22): Daily Fantasy Hockey

alex ovechkin NHL DFS lineup picks daily fantasy hockey draftkings fanduel

Mark Kieffer's top DraftKings and FanDuel NHL DFS value plays and research for October 22th, 2022 including DFS analysis for goalies, power plays and stacks.

It is October 22nd and we have a full slate of games tonight! Last night was just a three-game slate and Saturdays are often a split slate with some day games and some night games. Today is no different.

I'll be bringing you my NHL lineup picks, analysis, and advice for NHL DFS contests on DraftKings and FanDuel on Saturday, October 22nd, 2022 at 7:00 PM EST. Be sure to also check out our awesome NHL tools, including our Lineup Optimizer, Research Station, Projections, and DFS Cheat Sheets!

If you have any questions on today's slate, bankroll management, GPP strategy, Cash game strategy, or anything else, don’t hesitate to hit me up via Twitter @Mark_Kieffer or in our NHL discord. Good luck, RotoBallers!

NHL DFS Analysis and Picks for 10/22/22

With a nine-game slate, with teams like Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay, Toronto, Colorado, and Vegas, there are a lot of different directions someone can go. They cannot all be covered. Below are my favorite picks at each position with more of a cash game type of focus. There are many more that are viable, especially in GPPs.

You can check out the latest here: Vegas Odds for the Day

As always, make sure the goalie in your lineup is confirmed before the lineup lock! There is nothing worse than having a great lineup but taking a zero at goalie. This has happened to me before and it stinks!

NHL DFS Goalies

Frederik Andersen DK $7.6K || FD $7.7K

Opponent - Calgary Flames

Why is Frederik Andersen this cheap? I have no clue. He has a 2.35 GAA and a .920 SV% while Carolina is one of the best defensive teams in the entire NHL. Looking at the Vegas lines, Carolina is +115, indicating they are a small underdog most likely because they are on the road. Out of all the favorites, Calgary has the lowest implied total, and this is a game that I could see Carolina winning after coming off that tough game against Edmonton.

Others To Consider (Cash/GPP): Oettinger (DK $8.0K || FD $7.9K), Thompson (DK $7.5K || FD $7.9K)

NHL DFS Centers

Sidney Crosby -DK $7.5K || FD $9.4K

Opponent - Columbus Blue Jackets

Sidney Crosby is too cheap on DraftKings. Auston Matthews is more expensive than him and is $8.8K on there. That makes sense. Nathan MacKinnon ($8.6K) and Steven Stamkos ($7.8K) are the next two guys price-wise and are playing in a back-to-back, as they also played last night. The Penguins are implied for 3.8 goals. Crosby has two goals, and five assists while averaging 3.25 shots on goal per game.

Elias Pettersson -DK $6.5K || FD $7.7K

Opponent - Buffalo Sabres

The Buffalo Sabres have been playing well yet Vegas routinely makes them underdogs. Vancouver is a mess right now. That being said, Pettersson is doing well. He has three goals, and three assists, while averaging 3.4 shots on goal per game.

Others To Consider (CASH/GPP): Hintz (DK $6.0K || FD $6.7K), Granlund (DK $3.3K || FD $4.9K - Cash Games Only -- No Upside)

NHL DFS Wings

Alex Ovechkin- DK $7.7K || FD $8.7K

Opponent - Los Angeles Kings

I don't play Alex Ovechkin much in DFS these days. Washington isn't a great team or anything like that. That said, they are in a great spot tonight as they are at home and facing an L.A. Kings team that is allowing the eighth most shots on goal per game at 34.5 shots allowed per game. Ovechkin has two goals and three assists in his first five games this year. He is also averaging 3.8 shots on goal per game.

Rickard Rakell- DK $5.1K || FD $4.6K

Opponent - Columbus Blue Jackets

This play is dependent on Jake Guentzel being out with a head injury. If that is the case, Rakell moves to the top line most likely. In four games, he has two goals and averages four shots on goal per game. Being able to skate with Crosby is a boost for him.

Others To Consider (CASH/GPP): Marner (DK $6.9K || FD $8.5K), Forsberg (DK $6.7K || FD $7.0K)

NHL DFS Defensemen

John Carlson- DK $7.1K || FD $6.8K

Opponent - Los Angeles Kings

On a slate with a lot of good defensemen like Roman Josi, Cale Makar, and Victor Hedman, you can't really go wrong rostering any of them. I prefer Carlson due to his price and matchup. He got off to a slow start but in his last two games, he has three points, six shots on goal, and seven blocked shots.

Drew Doughty- DK $4.5K || FD $6.1K

Opponent - Washington Capitals

Normally I wouldn't roster defensemen from the same game but Drew Doughty is too cheap, especially on DraftKings. Doughty logs a high number of minutes on the ice, often in the 27-30 minute range. He shoots the puck and is on the Power Play.

Others To Consider (CASH/GPP): Dahlin (DK $6.7K || FD $6.7K - four goals in four game played), Byram (DK $3.2K || FD $5.4K)

NHL DFS Top Stacks

There are so many good spots to go to on this slate. Here is a handful I like:

  • Toronto 1: They have the highest implied total on the slate and the Jets are allowing the ninth-most shots on goal per game.
  • Nashville 1/PP1: Nashville has a high total and Philadelphia is allowing the fifth-most shots on goal per game. One could add Josi to make a PP1 stack
  • Washington 1: They are at home, with a high total, facing a Kings team that has goaltending issues and allows a lot of shots on goal.
  • Columbus 1/PP1: Pittsburgh is allowing the fourth most shots on goal in the league. Their penalty kill is the 24th best in the league. This will be a sneaky stack I believe.
  • Vegas PP1: Colorado just played a home game last night and now they have to travel to Vegas for a back to back. In addition, Colorado has the worst penalty kill in the league with defensive issues in general.
