Should I Drop Keenan Allen for Fantasy Football Week 5?

Should I drop Keenan Allen for fantasy football Week 5? Is Keenan Allen a safe player to cut? Read the fantasy football waivers outlook.

Chicago Bears wide receiver Keenan Allen returned in Week 4 after missing two games due to a heel injury.

Allen provided an abysmal showing in Week 4, which has some fantasy managers questioning if they should let go of the former pro-bowler.

Let’s take a closer look at the move and assess what you should potentially be doing if Allen is on your fantasy squad.

Editor's Note: The FFPC Baby Gorilla Tournament is now open, featuring a $100,000 grand prize and a $675,450 total prize pool! Should I Drop Keenan Allen in Fantasy Football?

Fantasy managers should not overreact to Keenan Allen's modest stat line in his first game back from a heel injury. It’s common for players returning from injuries to have slow starts as they ease back into game speed, and Allen's three catches for 19 yards shouldn't raise alarm bells.

His role in the Bears' offense is significant, and it's likely the team was being cautious with his usage in his first game back. Letting go of a proven, high-volume wide receiver like Allen after one underwhelming performance would be a hasty decision, especially given his track record of consistent production.

Allen has the benefit of playing alongside rookie quarterback Caleb Williams, who is only going to improve as the season progresses. In Week 1, before Allen's injury, he saw 11 targets, highlighting his importance in the offense.

As Williams gains more experience and develops further, the connection between him and Allen is bound to strengthen, leading to increased opportunities.

Given Allen's role and the promise of Williams' growth, fantasy managers should remain patient and hold onto him, as he could easily return to a WR2 status in the coming weeks.

Who Should I Pickup in Week 5 Fantasy Football?

If there's a player to target from the Bears' offense on the waiver wire, it’s second-year running back Roschon Johnson.

Johnson has been making his presence felt, and last week he added a goal-line touchdown to his resume, showcasing his potential for valuable touches in critical situations.

As the Bears continue to develop their offense, Johnson could carve out an even bigger role, especially around the red zone.

His ability to punch in scores and contribute in short-yardage situations makes him an intriguing pickup for fantasy managers in need of running back depth.

If he's still available in your league, now is the time to add him before his value rises.
