NFL running back Ryquell Armstead is a potential 2020 fantasy football sleeper and ADP draft value. Target him as an undervalued RB in fantasy football drafts.
BALLER MOVE: Target Around ~180 Overall
CURRENT ADP: ~220
ANALYSIS: On the morning of August 31st, news was released that running back Leonard Fournette was officially released by the Jacksonville Jaguars. There were attempts to trade Fournette, and he was entering the last year of his contract, but with no takers the Jaguars instead took this course of action.
Fournette was a high-volume running back in this offense in 2019, both with rushing attempts (265) in the running game and also with targets/receptions (100/76) in the passing game. This volume will likely get absorbed by both Ryquell Armstead and Chris Thompson.
Armstead should immediately assume RB2/Flex value, and his draft value should be adjusted accordingly. Previously being taken at the end of drafts (or not being drafted at all) with an ADP in the ~220 range, we can expect that number to soar up the rankings and draft boards immediately. With Armstead being the bigger back of the two, coming in at 5' 11" and 220 lbs, he should assume the early-down work and function as the lead running back in Jacksonville. Target him in the middle-rounds of fantasy drafts now that he is expected to have a new volume-heavy role in this offense.
UPDATE: On September 4th, Ryquell Armstead was placed on the COVID-19 list. It's unknown at this time how long he will be out for, or how long it will take for him to potentially ramp up. In the meantime, Devine Ozigbo is expected to act as the lead running back, and handle the early downs while Chris Thompson handles passing-down situations. This new twist on the Jaguars backfield makes Devine Ozigbo an attractive mid-round draft value pick.
