One and Done Selections - The John Deere Classic
In this feature, our golf staff of Joe Nicely, Spencer Aguiar, Joe Idone, Matt Miller, Byron Lindeque, and our special guest will provide their weekly golf picks every Wednesday. The purpose of this article is to present you with alternative options to consider and hopefully make your selection a much easier process weekly. With that plan in mind, let's get started!
Joe Nicely - Sepp Straka
I don’t know if there’s such a thing as a “safe” pick this week, as the John Deere Classic is a birdie-fest layout that basically brings the entire field into play. That said, perhaps no one in the field is going along as well as the defending Deere champion, Sepp Straka.
The big Austrian has gained strokes T2G and on Approach in each of his last eight starts - a stretch of outings where he’s posted three top-five finishes and two additional top-25s. Straka flirted with a 59 on this course last year and his recent ball striking would indicate that he’ll once again give himself plenty of scoring opportunities in the 2024 edition

In what world did I actually use Aaron Rai already?
It feels like the weekly problem my picks have undergone in this contest of not having someone when I want another crack at them this season.
Poston does have a wider ceiling versus floor projection of anyone in his price range, but his first-place rank for Weighted Strokes Gained Total when gearing the data for Deere Run was much more impactful in terms of upside than any floor outcome since we are looking for win potential right now.

Byron Lindeque - Adam Schenk
EVR played the Par 5s +1 on Sunday and still managed to finish T6, one spot out of each way placings for us, but he did some solid work.
This week, we are shooting from the hip and taking Adam Schenk. It’s a boom or bust scenario as his form has been putrid, but his course history is anything but. He has three finishes of T6, T4 and T6 in his last four appearances here. If we get another one of those or better, we could vault ourselves past everyone a million bucks ahead of us!
