BALLER MOVE: Stash in Deeper Leagues
CALL-UP ETA: July
ANALYSIS: The Blue Jays' top pitching prospect Ricky Tiedemann is getting closer to returning to game action in the minors. Last week he began throwing bullpen sessions after being on the shelf since April with nerve inflammation in his elbow.
The 21-year-old left-handed flamethrower has made only three starts for the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons this season totaling just eight innings. He advanced from rookie ball to Triple-A last season but has only pitched 130 innings total in the minor leagues.
Tiedemann got a hard look during Spring Training as a potential candidate for the fifth spot in the rotation. But the Jays ultimately went with Alek Manoah and Tiedemann landed on the IL not long after the season started.

There's really no question about how good Tiedemann's stuff is. However, he's going to have to prove he can stay healthy and throw strikes at Triple-A before Toronto considers bringing him up. Starting pitching is actually Toronto's strength this season, and while Tiedemann easily has more upside than Manoah, Toronto isn't likely to rush him into big-league action until he's had success in Buffalo and is fully stretched out.
Tiedemann, who is just 8.0% rostered on Yahoo, should only be stashed by managers who have a free roster spot in deeper formats. We may not see him until late in the summer, but he has the talent to succeed in the majors when his number is called.
