Yandy Diaz Goes Yard In First All-Star Game
1 year agoTampa Bay Rays first baseman Yandy Diaz made his presence felt in his first All-Star appearance on Tuesday in Seattle, going 1-for-2 with a solo home run in the American League's 3-2 loss to snap a nine-game winning streak in the Midsummer Classic. The 31-year-old's home run in the second inning got the scoring started, but the American League would only score one more run in the contest. Diaz has been a major catalyst for the first-place Rays so far in 2023, hitting .323 (96-for-297) with a league-leading .408 on-base percentage, 13 home runs, 18 doubles, 43 RBI and 58 runs scored in 78 games (341 plate appearances). He is one homer shy of matching his career-high, which was set in 2019 in his first year in Tampa.
