Whit Merrifield Cuts Strikeouts
5 years agoKansas City Royals outfielder Whit Merrifield appears to have found his stride once again. The utility man has a career strikeout rate of 16%, but for a period of about two weeks at the end of May and into early June, Merrifield became an entirely different player. He struck out 41% of the time and didn't walk once. He struggled to hit with much pop, recording just two extra-base hits in the time, and he only knocked in one run. However, in the last eight games, Merrifield has remembered who he was. He's hitting .382, striking out less than 15% of the time, has scored seven runs, knocked in four, and stolen two bases. It looks like Merrifield is back to being himself.
