Vikings Not Naming Their Week 7 Starting QB on Wednesday
J.J. McCarthy (ankle) and Carson Wentz (shoulder) will get work in practice on Wednesday. The 22-year-old McCarthy was named the starter going into the regular season, but he suffered a right high-ankle sprain in Week 2 and hasn't played since. It sounds like he has made progress coming out of the bye week, but O'Connell has also hinted that it might be good for the young signal-caller to sit and learn behind Wentz a little longer. The Vikings are playing it close to the vest, but McCarthy also might need a full week of practice before the team trusts him to take back over as the starter. Wentz injured his left (non-throwing) shoulder in the Week 5 win in London over the Cleveland Browns, but he should be fine to start this weekend, if the Vikings choose to sit McCarthy another week.
