Ty Dillon will start the Pala Casino 400 from Auto Club 36th out of the 36 cars entered. In five races at Fontana, the best Dillon has finished was 17th. Place improvement has been minimal for the Spire Motorsports driver. With qualifying washed out, NASCAR used their metric which weighs driver performance along with fast lap set at Daytona, and owners' points. The No. 77 Chevy was slow at best at Daytona finishing 40th.
