Trey Lance Doesn't Practice Monday
3 years agoSan Francisco 49ers rookie quarterback Trey Lance (knee) was not at practice on Monday while dealing with a left knee sprain, and Nate Sudfeld could serve as the team's backup quarterback for the second straight game in Week 7 against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday night. Jimmy Garoppolo (calf), who has been out since Week 4, practiced without limitations on Monday and is on track to return in Week 7. Lance injured his knee in his first career start in Week 5, and it appears serious enough to keep him out coming out of the bye week. The 21-year-old first-rounder went 15-for-29 for 192 yards, no touchdowns and an interception in his starting debut, also rushing 16 times for 89 additional yards. There's a lot to like long term with Lance, but it's clear that Garoppolo is the starter when he's healthy.
