Samaje Perine Could See More Work In Week 5
1 year agoDenver Broncos running back Samaje Perine was expected to have a much bigger workload early on in his first season in Denver. He has carried the ball 18 times for 66 yards (3.67 yards per carry) and has 11 catches for 95 yards. Undrafted rookie Jaleel McLaughlin has so far outshined the 28-year-old. Perine could have a bigger role in Denver's backfield in Week 5 against the New York Jets if Javonte Williams (quadriceps) is unable to play, but the bad news is McLaughlin had one more carry than Perine last week when Williams was hurt despite playing fewer snaps. McLaughlin has been much more efficient with his touches and has found the end zone twice. At best, Perine will be worth a look as an RB3/flex this Sunday if Williams is inactive while going up against a Jets D that has been vulnerable on the ground.
