Ryan Mountcastle Unlikely to Return Until Next Week
Ryan Mountcastle (hamstring) is eligible to return from the injured list on Wednesday, but MLB.com's Jake Rill writes that he is unlikely to return to the O's until next week's series against the Philadelphia Phillies, which starts on Monday, Aug. 4. Mountcastle has been out for almost two months with a strained right hamstring, so the Orioles would like to see him play in a few more minor-league rehab games. When the 28-year-old does finally return from the IL, he could be splitting first base duties with Coby Mayo if Ryan O'Hearn is sent packing at this week's trade deadline. If O'Hearn isn't traded, it could be more of a struggle for regular playing time for Mountcastle, who was hitting .246 (46-for-187) with only two home runs, 15 RBI and 19 runs scored before his hammy injury. Since hitting a career-high 33 bombs in 21, Mountcastle's power has declined.
