Ryan Braun's Career Could Be Extended With New DH Rule
4 years agoMilwaukee Brewers outfielder/first baseman Ryan Braun's career could be extended with a universal designated hitter in the National League for the shortened 2020 season and possibly in 2021 and beyond. Braun is 36 years old and is entering the final guaranteed year of his contract, leading to questions in March about this potentially being his last season. He said there's a "higher likelihood that I would be interested in playing another year now." Being able to see most of his at-bats out of the DH spot this year and maybe next, Braun could stay healthier and be more productive. He's hit .266/.324/.511 in just 103 career plate appearances as a DH. Braun could see his draft stock rise a bit if he can see more at-bats as a DH, and his ability to hit for power and average and steal some bases can certainly be appealing for owners late in drafts.
