Ryan Bergert to Make Another Start for Royals
Ryan Bergert will make another start for the team on Sunday in the series finale in Minnesota against the division-rival Twins at Target Field. Bergert was acquired from the San Diego Padres at the July 31 trade deadline and allowed two earned runs on two hits while walking two and striking out two in 5 2/3 innings in his Royals debut against the Boston Red Sox on Aug. 5. The 25-year-old former sixth-round pick by the Padres in 2021 out of West Virginia will get another start with his new team, but after that he could be bumped from the rotation with veteran Michael Lorenzen (oblique) nearing his return. Bergert hasn't been anything special in his first MLB season in 2025, but he's more than held his own with a 2.83 ERA (4.15 FIP) and 1.11 WHIP while walking 20 and striking out 36 in 41 1/3 innings over 12 outings (eight starts).
