Robert Suarez Locks Up 33rd Save Monday
Robert Suarez picked up his 33rd save of the season in Monday's 4-1 win over the Giants. Suarez entered the game to pitch the bottom of the ninth inning up by three and delivered a 1-2-3 effort with no strikeouts. The 34-year-old leads baseball in saves and has a 3.22 ERA, a 1.01 WHIP, and a 9.12 K/9 rate in 50 1/3 innings of work. Despite his excellent numbers, things were shaken up at the trade deadline when the Padres acquired another strong closer in Mason Miller. The two have each seen two save opportunities in the last 15 days, and Miller pitched a scoreless eighth inning Monday, striking out the side. While it is unusual, it seems as though the Padres may be able to produce enough fantasy value for both pitchers while sharing save opportunities.
