Red Sox Sign Jamie Westbrook To Minor-League Deal
1 year agoThe Boston Red Sox signed free-agent outfielder Jamie Westbrook to a minor-league deal this week that includes an invite to major-league spring training. Westbrook has yet to reach the big leagues at 28 years old after originally being drafted in the fifth round in 2013 by the Arizona Diamondbacks. He impressed at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in the New York Yankees organization in 2023, though, slashing .294/.400/.496 with an .897 OPS, career-high 21 home runs, 20 doubles, 65 RBI, six stolen bases and 70 runs scored in 496 plate appearances over 117 games. Westbrook will most likely open the 2024 season at Triple-A Worcester, but he could receive his first big-league call-up as short-term outfield depth if he picks up where he left off in 2023.
