Pirates Sign Lefty Tyler Anderson
4 years agoThe Pittsburgh Pirates signed free-agent left-hander Tyler Anderson to a one-year major league contract worth $2.5 million on Tuesday. Anderson has made 82 starts over five big league seasons with the Rockies and Giants and should enter spring training with a spot in the team's starting rotation. The other four members of Pittsburgh's staff have made a combined 140 MLB starts. The 30-year-old former first-rounder in 2011 had a 3.54 ERA and 3.59 FIP in 114 1/3 innings in 2016 when he made his debut. He was injured late in the 2017 season and allowed a league-high 30 long balls in 2018 with Colorado. Knee problems have also hindered Anderson, and he has a 4.65 career ERA. The southpaw mostly relies on a fastball/changeup combination but doesn't overpower hitters. Anderson will mainly be an innings-eater for depth in NL-only leagues.
