Alec Bohm Placed on 10-Day Injured List
Alec Bohm (ribs) on the 10-day injured list with a fractured left rib and recalled infielder/outfielder Weston Wilson from Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Bohm suffered the injury on a hit by pitch last Saturday, causing him to miss two of the Phillies' three games since then. The 28-year-old played Friday, but he aggravated the injury during a loss to the Angels and could now miss a sizable chunk of time. While Edmundo Sosa, Otto Kemp, and Wilson are the in-house candidates to play third during Bohm's absence, the team does have the option of acquiring outside help before the July 31 trade deadline.Source: Philadelphia Phillies
The Philadelphia Phillies have placed third baseman Cade Povich Records Six Strikeouts in Rehab Start
Cade Povich (hip) took the mound for Triple-A Norfolk on Saturday. Last time out, Povich threw three scoreless innings at High-A Aberdeen. On Saturday, Povich allowed one run on three hits while striking out six batters across 3 ⅓ innings of work. It's unclear if Povich will be cleared to return or require another rehab start after this outing. Honestly, it's uncertain if Povich has a spot in the O's rotation at the moment. The right-hander might be forced to stick in Triple-A until a spot opens up. It's possible that the O's make a few trades at the deadline and Povich joins the rotation after that. For now, Povich isn't someone that needs to be rostered in fantasy formats.Source: Roch Kubatko
Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Kyle Bradish Throws Batting Practice Session
Kyle Bradish (elbow) was able to throw a live two-inning batting practice session on Saturday. Bradish reportedly looked good during this session, which is great news. That means, Bradish should be able to head out on a rehab assignment now. He figures to need a few rehab starts before getting back into the mix in the O's rotation. Bradish is working his way back from Tommy John surgery from last year. The hope is that Bradish can be an option in the starting rotation by late August. He could be worth a stash on the IL for fantasy managers desperate for pitching help.Source: Jacob Calvin Meyer
Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Liam Hendriks Throwing at 120 Feet
Liam Hendriks (hip) appears to be making progress as he threw from 120 feet on Saturday. Hendriks has been sidelined since May 28 due to right hip inflammation. He was transferred to the 60-day injured list and there really hasn't been many updates on his status since then. The Red Sox are hopeful that Hendriks can be an option for them down the stretch of the season. The timetable for his return is unclear, but sometime in August seems possible. Hendriks is unlikely to be a closing option, so there's probably no fantasy value here.Source: Christopher Smith
Boston Red Sox relief pitcher Michael Kopech Begins Throwing Progression
Michael Kopech (knee) was able to resume a throwing program on Saturday. This is the first time that Kopech has been able to play catch since he underwent knee surgery last week. The right-hander required surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee. He's currently on the 60-day injured list and isn't eligible to return until late August. Kopech says that he's feeling better and that he believes he'll be ready to return once his IL stint is over. Kopech figures to be a high-leverage option for the Dodgers, but fantasy managers don't need to bother stashing him right now.Source: Fabian Ardaya
Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Bryan Woo Scheduled to Start on Sunday
Bryan Woo is scheduled to take the ball versus the Houston Astros on Sunday. Woo has been outstanding lately as he has allowed two earned runs or less in each of his last five starts. He threw seven hitless innings against the New York Yankees before giving up two runs on July 10. Woo holds a 2.75 ERA and needs to be started and rostered in all fantasy formats. Framber Valdez will get the ball for Houston in what is looking like a pitcher's duel on Sunday.Source: Shannon Drayer
Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Brandon Lowe Removed Early on Saturday
Brandon Lowe (undisclosed) was removed early during Saturday's game against the Baltimore Orioles. It's unclear what happened to Lowe, but he was pulled out of the game after grounding out in his third at-bat. He was activated off the injured list on Friday. Possibly, Lowe re-aggravated his oblique issue, but the team should give an update on his status shortly. When healthy, Lowe is a stud, so fantasy managers should continue to hold him for now. He went 0-for-3 at the plate before being pulled out. Jose Caballero took over at second base and figures to see an extended look there if Lowe misses time.Source: Marc Topkin
Tampa Bay Rays second baseman Javier Baez Resting on Saturday
Javier Baez is out of the starting lineup ahead of Saturday's game against the Texas Rangers. This appears to be a routine rest day for Baez who went 1-for-3 with a single and stolen base during Friday's second half opener. Baez has struggled a bit with the bat over the last few weeks, so he's not a must-have fantasy option right now. He's worth rostering in deep leagues, but isn't a great choice outside of that. Trey Sweeney will take over at shortstop and bat ninth against right-hander Kumar Rocker on Saturday.Source: mlb.com
Detroit Tigers shortstop Jarren Duran Absent Versus Southpaw
Jarren Duran is out of the starting lineup ahead of Saturday's game against the Chicago Cubs. This appears to be a matchup decision to rest Duran against left-handed starter Shota Imanaga on Saturday. Duran has struggled against left-handed pitching this season, so the Red Sox will go with Rob Refsnyder in left field for Saturday's contest. Fantasy managers should adjust their lineups ahead of first pitch. Refsynder has good numbers against lefty pitching, but isn't an ideal streaming option against an elite arm in Imanaga.Source: mlb.com
Boston Red Sox outfielder Max Muncy Takes Grounders on Saturday
Max Muncy (knee) was able to take ground balls at third base ahead of Saturday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers. This is good news as Muncy continues to work his way back from a knee issue that has sidelined him since early July. It appears Muncy is making progress, but he still has plenty of work still to do. The expectation is that Muncy won't be back in action until mid-August. Possibly, Muncy can beat that timetable, but fantasy managers should expect to be without him for at least the rest of July.Source: Fabian Ardaya
Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Lawrence Butler Out Versus Southpaw
Lawrence Butler will take a seat ahead of Saturday's game against the Cleveland Guardians. The A's will play matchups here and rest the left-handed swinging Butler against left-handed starter Logan Allen. Honestly, Butler could probably use the day off after going 0-for-4 during the second half opener on Friday. Brent Rooker will shift over to right field and bat second against Allen on Saturday. Fantasy managers should remove Butler from their lineups, but expect him back in the mix on Sunday.Source: mlb.com
Athletics outfielder Royce Lewis Taking a Seat on Saturday
Royce Lewis is absent from the starting lineup ahead of Saturday's game against the Colorado Rockies. Lewis will take a seat here after going 0-for-3 with a strikeout during the second half opener on Friday. He's hitless over his last 11 at-bats, so maybe a day off is a good idea. In his absence, Brooks Lee will take over at third base and bat seventh versus right-hander Antonio Senzatela. Normally, Lee isn't a great fantasy option, but he could offer some low-end value against Senzatela who is posting a 6.60 ERA coming into this game.Source: mlb.com
Minnesota Twins third baseman Mookie Betts Absent on Saturday
Mookie Betts is out of the starting lineup ahead of Saturday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers. This appears to be a regular rest day for Betts who has struggled with the bat this month. In July, Betts is slashing .188/.212/.354 over 52 plate appearances, so it's not a bad idea to rest him against a tough pitcher in right-hander Freddy Peralta. In his absence, Miguel Rojas will cover shortstop and bat ninth against the Brew Crew on Saturday. Fantasy managers should expect Betts back in the mix on Sunday.Source: mlb.com
Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Derek Law to Undergo Season-Ending Surgery on Flexor Tendon
Derek Law (forearm) will undergo season-ending surgery on a partially torn flexor tendon, according to Spencer Nusbaum of the Washington Post. Law will need nine to 10 months to recover and doesn't expect to return until July. The 34-year-old didn't pitch in the majors at all this season after beginning the campaign on the 15-day injured list with a flexor strain. Law progressed enough to pitch in rehab games over the past few weeks, but this will now go down as a lost season for him. He was an important cog in Washington's bullpen last season, as he racked up a whopping 90 innings in 75 appearances and recorded a 2.60 ERA with 17 holds and a 1.18 WHIP. As a soon-to-be free agent, Law may have thrown his last pitch in a Nationals uniform.Source: Spencer Nusbaum - The Washington Post
Washington Nationals right-handed reliever Trevor Williams Undergoes Internal-Brace Surgery
Trevor Williams (elbow) underwent a successful internal brace procedure on his elbow, Spencer Nusbaum of the Washington Post reports. Williams' season is over, but he's expected to return sometime in early 2026 after avoiding Tommy John surgery. He'll try to rebound in the second season of a two-year, $14 million contract that hasn't gone the Nationals' way so far. Before going under the knife, the 33-year-old went 3-10 with a 6.21 ERA and 65 strikeouts against 21 walks over 82 2/3 innings.Source: Spencer Nusbaum - The Washington Post
