New York Yankees first baseman/catcher Ben Rice had a monster game at the plate to lead his team to a 7-1 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday. The 26-year-old finished the afternoon 4-for-5 with a grand slam, a double, and five RBI. He put the exclamation point on his day by taking reliever Keegan Akin deep with the bases loaded in the 10th inning to break a 1-1 tie and all but guarantee a win for the Yankees. While it was just the second homer in September for Rice, he has broken out with 24 during his first full season in the majors. The 26-year-old has also slashed a strong .252/.335/.488 with 62 RBI and 69 runs scored across 133 games and 510 plate appearances.--Connor Byrne

San Diego Padres closer Robert Suarez collected his National League-leading 40th save in a 3-2 win over the Chicago White Sox on Sunday. The 34-year-old right-hander slammed the door on the White Sox with a 1-2-3 ninth inning and struck out two to lock up the first 40-save season of his career. It was a nice rebound for Suarez after he allowed a solo home run in a victory over Chicago on Saturday. Suarez, who's one save from tying Carlos Estevez for the major league lead, has recorded a sturdy 3.06 ERA with a .93 WHIP, 72 strikeouts, and 16 walks in 67 2/3 innings this season.--Connor Byrne

Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll became the first 30-30 player in franchise history in a 9-2 rout of the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday. Carroll launched his 31st homer, a three-run, 428-foot shot against left-hander Ranger Suarez, and stole his 30th base during a 2-for-5 afternoon. The 25-year-old star added a double and finished with four RBI. While Carroll has only gone yard twice in 18 games this month, he has chipped in nine steals, 12 RBI, and 14 runs scored to continue an outstanding season. Across 624 trips to the plate this year, Carroll has slashed .260/.340/.546 with 79 extra-base hits, 83 RBI, and 106 runs.--Connor Byrne

Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Brandon Woodruff (lat) is dealing with a moderate lat strain, manager Pat Murphy told reporters. Woodruff landed on the 15-day IL on Sunday after the injury cropped up during his bullpen session on Saturday. The 32-year-old will be eligible to pitch when the Brewers begin the NLDS on Oct. 4, though it remains unclear if he'll be ready to return after a minimum IL stint. Going without Woodruff for any of the postseason would be an unfortunate development for Milwaukee, which owns the best record in the National League. Although Woodruff only made 12 starts during the regular season, he has been a key contributor to the Brewers' success this year. Woodruff went 7-2 with a 3.20 ERA, a .91 WHIP, and 83:14 K:BB in 64 2/3 innings.--Connor Byrne

St. Louis Cardinals designated hitter/catcher Ivan Herrera (elbow) will undergo surgery to remove loose bodies from his right elbow after the season, Jim Hayes of FanDuel Sports Network reports. Herrera is expected to be ready for spring training. In the meantime, he'll have the procedure to fix an elbow issue that has negatively affected his ability to throw to second base over the past couple of seasons. The 25-year-old has only served as a catcher in 14 games this season - none since July - but he should see a lot more action behind the plate in 2026 if the surgery goes according to plan. Herrera has broken out offensively this year with a .281/.369/.455 line, 17 homers, 60 RBI, 50 runs scored, and eight stolen bases over 427 plate appearances. Considering his offensive prowess, Herrera could be among the most valuable backstops in both real life and fantasy if he's able to stick as a catcher in the future.--Connor Byrne

Miami Marlins right-hander Edward Cabrera (elbow) will return from the 15-day injured list to start on Tuesday against the Philadelphia Phillies, manager Clayton McCullough announced. Cabrera has been shelved for all of September with a sprained elbow, but he'll take the ball at least one more time before the season ends. The 27-year-old has made a career-high 24 starts this season and gone 7-7 with a 3.57 ERA, a 1.21 WHIP, and 140:42 K:BB in 128 2/3 innings. Cabrera faced the Phillies on June 19 and surrendered a mere one run on two hits in 6 1/3 frames, but he didn't factor into the decision in a Marlins loss.--Connor Byrne

Los Angeles Angels left-hander Sam Aldegheri will start on Tuesday against the Kansas City Royals, according to Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register. It'll be the first start this season for Aldegheri, who last pitched for the Angels on July 8. The 24-year-old has made two appearances in the majors in 2025 and yielded five earned runs on seven hits and five walks (four strikeouts) in 4 1/3 innings. Aledgheri has been far more successful at Double-A Rocket City, where he has recorded a 3.72 ERA with a 1.36 WHIP, 110 strikeouts, and 58 walks across 23 starts and 128 1/3 frames. He'll face a Kansas City offense that has managed a lackluster .232/.300/.349 line versus southpaws this year.--Connor Byrne

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Trevor McDonald looked sharp on the mound during his first career start on Sunday. McDonald had a tough challenge ahead of him against the Los Angeles Dodgers lineup. Despite that, McDonald was up to the challenge. He tossed six innings, allowing one run on six hits while striking out three batters. McDonald tossed six scoreless innings before the Dodgers were finally able to put something together against him in the seventh inning. He figures to get one more turn in the rotation which would come against the Colorado Rockies. McDonald is looking like an appealing streaming option for that one.--Andy Webb

Houston Astros shortstop Jeremy Pena (oblique) has been scratched from the starting lineup ahead of Sunday's game against the Seattle Mariners. Pena was supposed to lead off and play shortstop, but has been pulled out due to an oblique issue. Astros general manager Dana Brown said Pena will get some imaging done to determine the severity of the injury. Brown continued by saying he believes it'll be a day-to-day issue, but the testing will give more information. In the meantime, Mauricio Dubon will take over at shortstop on Sunday.--Andy Webb

Chicago Cubs third baseman Matt Shaw (personal) was held out of the starting lineup from Sunday's loss to the Cincinnati Reds. Shaw is currently away from the team to attend a funeral. The rookie slugger is expected to return to the team on Tuesday. In the meantime, Justin Turner figures to see increased playing time at the hot corner. Shaw was swinging a hot bat in the second half, but has struggled in the month of September. He's really only a deep league option at this point.--Andy Webb

Houston Astros designated hitter Yordan Alvarez (ankle) has yet to resume any baseball activities. On Sunday, Alvarez told reporters that he's progressing well, but needs to wait for the swelling in his ankle to go down before he's cleared to return. That being said, Alvarez won't travel with the team for their upcoming road trip against the Athletics. At this point, Alvarez returning before the end of the regular season seems unlikely. Fantasy managers still in the playoffs might want to drop Alvarez for another hitter. Possibly, Alvarez can return for the postseason, assuming the Astros make it.--Andy Webb

Boston Red Sox outfielder Wilyer Abreu (calf) was activated from the 10-day injured list ahead of Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays. Abreu is back in the mix after missing around a month of action due to a calf issue. He figures to start in right field against a majority of right-handed starting pitching. That being said, Abreu will cover right field and bat eighth during Sunday's contest. Abreu has enough upside with the bat to warrant rostering in deep leagues at the minimum. In a corresponding move, catcher Ali Sanchez has been designated for assignment.--Andy Webb

Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Seth Lugo (back) won't take the mound again this season, according to manager Matt Quatraro. Lugo has been sidelined since early September due to back discomfort. The right-hander was able to throw a bullpen session, but didn't respond well. It doesn't sound like Lugo is healing fast enough to take the mound again before the regular season ends. He'll finish the 2025 campaign with a 4.15 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, and a 125/55 K/BB across 26 starts. Lugo should be ready in time for spring training next season.--Andy Webb

Milwaukee Brewers catching prospect Jeferson Quero reportedly has a locker in the Brewers clubhouse. No official call-up has been announced, although it was confirmed that he is joining the taxi squad. Regular catcher William Contreras suffered a hand bruise on Saturday and was out of the lineup on Sunday. Contreras said he wanted to play on Sunday, but the team held him out and he is considered day-to-day. If Quero were to be called up, it would be his major league debut. The Brewers' fourth-ranked prospect dealt with shoulder and hamstring injuries this season, and was limited to just 58 games at Triple-A this year, where he slashed .255/.336/.412 with six home runs and a solid 10.0 percent walk rate. The 22-year-old is running out of time to help fantasy managers in 2025, but he could be a factor next season and is a solid dynasty stash at the catcher position.--Jarod Rupp

Arizona Diamondbacks pitching prospect Austin Pope was called up from Triple-A Reno on Sunday for what will be his major league debut whenever he enters a game. The 26-year-old missed the first half of the season rehabbing from knee surgery, but has been active at Triple-A since the beginning of July. The right-hander posted a 4.60 ERA, 1.50 WHIP, and an 18.8 percent K-BB% in 26 appearances (25 in relief). The 6-foot-3 hurler will fill a middle relief role for the big league squad, and with a .288 opponent batting average against at Triple-A, along with no chance for saves, the former 15th-round draft pick is off the fantasy radar as the season winds down.--Jarod Rupp
