Pirates Place Joey Bart on Concussion Injured List
Joey Bart (concussion) on the seven-day concussion injured list and reinstated catcher/first baseman Endy Rodriguez (finger) from the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move. Bart suffered a concussion in Tuesday's game when he was hit in the head by a backswing. Henry Davis is doing the catching for right-hander Paul Skenes on Wednesday against the Arizona Diamondbacks, and he and Rodriguez should split the catching duties for the Bucs for as long as Bart is out of action. The 28-year-old Bart had a career-high 13 home runs and 45 RBI in 80 games with Pittsburgh last year, but he hasn't been quite as good in 2025. Through 44 games before his concussion, Bart has hit .240 (35-for-146) with only one long ball and 11 RBI. It's possible he'll need longer than a week to recover from his head injury.Source: Pittsburgh Pirates
The Pittsburgh Pirates announced on Wednesday that they placed catcher Max Scherzer to Face Live Hitters This Week
Max Scherzer (thumb) threw a 45-pitch bullpen session in Florida on Monday that went well. Scherzer's next step is to face live hitters in Toronto on Thursday or Friday. The 40-year-old future Hall of Famer's bullpen on Monday was his second session in three days, and he's now ready to take the next step as he attempts to return from a nagging right-thumb injury that has limited him to just one start in his first year with the team. If Scherzer can throw a couple successful live batting practice sessions, he should be cleared to embark on a minor-league rehab assignment. He's been on the injured list since March 30 and probably won't be able to return to Toronto's starting rotation for at least another couple of weeks. It's hard for fantasy managers to remain patient with an aging pitcher that has struggled with injuries the last few years.Source: Toronto Sun - Rob Longley
Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider said that right-hander Moises Ballesteros Hits Home Run No. 5 on Wednesday
Chicago Cubs catching prospect Moises Ballesteros went 1-for-3 with his fifth home run of the season on Wednesday for Triple-A Iowa. The 21-year-old was unstoppable before being called up for a brief stint in the majorsread more...
Erik Swanson Could Return Thursday
Erik Swanson (forearm), who has been sidelined since spring training with carpal-tunnel syndrome in his forearm, had a clean three-up, three-down inning in a minor-league rehab outing on Tuesday for the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons. The Toronto Sun's Rob Longley suggests that Swanson could be activated from the injured list and return to the big-league bullpen for the first time all year on Thursday for the start of a home series against the Athletics. The 31-year-old has allowed eight runs (six earned) on six hits while walking one and striking out four in six rehab outings with Buffalo, Single-A Dunedin and the rookie-level Florida Complex League. Swanson had an ERA over 5.00 in 45 appearances for the Jays last year, but he could bounce back as a solid late-inning setup man for Toronto if his forearm injury is in the rearview mirror.Source: Toronto Sun - Rob Longley
Toronto Blue Jays right-handed reliever Braves-Phillies Game Postponed on Wednesday
AJ Smith-Shawver was scheduled to start on the mound on Wednesday, with right-hander Zack Wheeler opposing him for the Phillies. Both starters should be pushed back to one of the games of the doubleheader in Philly on Thursday. Fantasy managers need to remove all other position players that they might have had in their starting lineups for these two teams for the day.Source: Philadelphia Phillies
The divisional contest on Wednesday between the Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park has been postponed due to inclement weather. The game will be made up on Thursday, May 29, as part of a split day/night doubleheader, according to the Phillies. Right-hander Jose Quintana Preparing to Start on Sunday Against Phillies
Jose Quintana (shoulder) is back from his one-game minor-league rehab assignment and said he has normal soreness but otherwise feels fine, according to MLB.com's Adam McCalvy. Quintana is preparing to come off the injured list to start on Sunday on the road against the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park. The 36-year-old southpaw is ready to return to the big-league starting rotation after tossing 71 pitches over four innings in his rehab start with High-A Wisconsin on Tuesday. Quintana has had a good start to his 2025 season in Milwaukee, going 4-1 with a 2.65 ERA (4.54 FIP) and 1.23 WHIP with 24 strikeouts and 11 walks in 34 innings over six starts, but his 4.54 FIP points to regression coming. We wouldn't recommend using him as a fantasy streamer this weekend against a Phillies offense that ranks fifth in MLB with a .744 OPS.Source: MLB.com - Adam McCalvy
Milwaukee Brewers left-hander Josue Briceno Hits Eighth Home Run at High-A
Detroit Tigers catching prospect Josue Briceno smacked his eighth home run of the season -- a three-run shot -- in a 1-for-2 day at the plate for High-A West Michigan on Tuesday, walking once and scoringread more...
Lane Thomas Dealing With Plantar Fasciitis
Lane Thomas (foot) is dealing with plantar fasciitis in his right foot and is being evaluated on Wednesday, according to MLB.com's Tim Stebbins. Thomas did not start in the series finale against the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday, with Angel Martinez making the start in center field. It's the second straight game that Thomas has been out of the starting lineup, and he could be headed back to the injured list for the second time this year. The 29-year-old has had bad luck with injuries so far in 2025 after already having a lengthy stay on the IL earlier this season with a wrist contusion. When on the field, Thomas has gone just 7-for-59 (.119) with no homers, three RBI, two runs and a steal. It remains to be seen how long he'll be out, but either way, Angel Martinez's fantasy stock continues to rise as a center field option in Cleveland.Source: MLB.com - Tim Stebbins
Cleveland Guardians outfielder Steven Kwan Leaves Early on Wednesday With Wrist Inflammation
Steven Kwan (wrist) was removed from Wednesday's series finale early against the Los Angeles Dodgers before the fourth inning due to right-wrist inflammation. Before departing prematurely, Kwan was hitless in his two plate appearances as the leadoff hitter for Cleveland. The 27-year-old was replaced in left field by Nolan Jones. The good news for Kwan is that the Guardians are off on Thursday for a travel day before beginning a three-game series on Friday against the Los Angeles Angels. It's unclear how serious Kwan's injury is, but fantasy managers should check back on Friday for an update on his status. Kwan has very little power but came into Wednesday's game hitting .314 (66-for-210). Jones could see regular playing time going forward with both Kwan and Lane Thomas (foot) injured.Source: Chris Assenheimer
Cleveland Guardians outfielder Ketel Marte Out Again on Wednesday
Ketel Marte (illness) is sitting out a second straight game due to an illness for Wednesday's series finale against the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates at Chase Field. Jordan Lawlar will make another start at second base and will hit eighth against Pirates right-hander Paul Skenes. Marte is dealing with flu-like symptoms and will sit out again. With a scheduled off day for travel on Thursday, the 31-year-old All-Star's next chance to play will be in Friday's series opener versus the Washington Nationals. Marte should be back at some point this weekend in the desert. Lawlar got his call to the big leagues for the first time since 2023 recently, but he's gone hitless in his first 18 plate appearances over seven games with two walks and eight strikeouts. DFS gamers will want to avoid Lawlar against the powerful Skenes.Source: MLB.com
Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Jefferson Rojas Tallies Two Triples on Tuesday
Jefferson Rojas went 2-for-5 with two triples and a run scored on Tuesday for High-A South Bend. It marked the third multi-hit game in his last five, going 8-for-22 (.364) over that stretch and pushed his season-long slash line to .298/.388/.496, including six doubles, four triples, and four home runs. The 20-year-old has also recorded seven steals this season after tallying 21 last year at the same level. Now with 130 games under his belt at High-A with improved year-over-year walk and swinging-strike rates, look for the Cubs' sixth-ranked prospect to get a look at Double-A in the near future. The Dominican should be knocking on the door to the majors at some point in 2026, and with solid hit, power, and run tools, even redraft managers should get to know his name.Source: MiLB.com
Chicago Cubs infield prospect Harry Ford On Fire in May at Triple-A
Harry Ford went 2-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored on Tuesday for Triple-A Tacoma. The 2021 first-round draft pick came into May hitting .209 (14-for-67) with two extra-base hits (one 2B, one HR), but has caught fire this month, collecting 11 multi-hit performances in 18 games and hitting .394 (28-for-71) with nine extra-base hits (six 2B, three HR). Seattle's fifth-ranked prospect has been a model of consistency at a grueling position, playing in at least 104 games in each of the last three seasons as he has methodically climbed the minor league ladder. In his first season at Triple-A, he's slashing .304/.429/.442 with four home runs and three stolen bases. The 22-year-old stole 35 bags in 2024, which is an attractive quality in a future fantasy catcher, and with a good shot to debut in 2025, those skills could be put on display later in the year, so he could become a top prospect stash soon.Source: MiLB.com
Seattle Mariners catching prospect Slade Caldwell Records Fourth Straight Multi-Hit Game
Slade Caldwell went 3-for-5 on Tuesday for Single-A Visalia, recording an RBI, a run scored, and a stolen base. It was the fourth straight multi-hit effort for the 2024 first-round draft pick, going 10-for-17 (.588) with two doubles, a home run, and one steal over that stretch. Importantly, the left-handed hitter struck out just twice in 18 plate appearances (11.1 percent), which was an improved rate compared to the 31.6 percent strikeout rate he was sporting before this hot streak. It's the 18-year-old's first glimpse of professional ball, though, so some growing pains are to be expected. Arizona's second-ranked prospect will be their top-ranked prospect as soon as Jordan Lawlar graduates, and brings 70-grade speed to the diamond, so it will be fun to watch him develop his bat alongside his base-stealing ability on his way to the big leagues.Source: MiLB.com
Arizona Diamondbacks outfield prospect Logan O'Hoppe Expected to Start on Wednesday
Logan O'Hoppe (head) cleared all concussion tests and is expected to return to the starting lineup for Wednesday's contest against the visiting New York Yankees, according to the Orange County Register's Jeff Fletcher. O'Hoppe was pulled from Monday's series opener against the Yanks when he took a backswing to the head in the eighth inning. The 25-year-old didn't start Tuesday's loss but came in to pinch hit. Fantasy managers will want to check back for the Halos' official lineup later on Wednesday, but O'Hoppe is expected to start against Yankees right-hander Clarke Schmidt, who he has gone hitless against in just one career at-bat. O'Hoppe is one of the most valuable catchers in fantasy and ranks second in homers (14), fourth in RBI (30), tied for eighth in runs scored (20) and fifth in batting average (.265) at the position.Source: Orange County Register - Jeff Fletcher
Los Angeles Angels catcher Ronel Blanco to Have Season-Ending Elbow Surgery
Ronel Blanco (elbow) will have season-ending right-elbow surgery next week. Blanco is expected to return during the 2026 season. Specifically, Blanco will have Tommy John surgery, which means he'll miss the rest of this year and most likely at least half of 2026. It's a tough blow to an Astros starting rotation that also currently has Luis Garcia (elbow) and Spencer Arrighetti (thumb) on the injured list. Now that the 31-year-old Blanco is officially done for the year, fantasy managers in single-year formats can safely drop him and look for a replacement pitcher. Left-handed rookie Colton Gordon should continue to stick in Houston's starting rotation for the foreseeable future. Before getting hurt, Blanco went 3-4 with a 4.10 ERA and 1.18 WHIP with 48 strikeouts and 20 walks in 48 1/3 innings over his nine starts in 2025.Source: Houston Astros
The Houston Astros announced on Wednesday that right-hander
