Brock Purdy in Line to Return in Week 4
Mac Jones will draw the start against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 3. This will mark two straight starts for Jones while Brock Purdy (toe, shoulder) is sidelined. However, Ian Rapoport believes Purdy is in line to return versus the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 4. The 49ers are going to take the cautious approach and hold out Purdy for one more week. That's not a terrible decision, given Jones did have success during last week's win. Fantasy managers should be able to ride with Jones as a QB2 for one more game. Once healthy, Purdy should be considered a solid QB1 for fantasy managers.

Jayden Daniels Avoids MCL Sprain
Jayden Daniels (knee) has already been ruled out for the Week 3 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders. The good news is that the Commanders have ruled out a possible MCL sprain for Daniels. Hopefully, this issue will only result in a one-game absence for him. Fantasy managers will have a better idea of his status when they resume practice ahead of Week 4. In the meantime, Marcus Mariota will take over under center and is a possible streaming option for fantasy managers who lost Daniels.

Tristan Wirfs Could Return Next Week
Chris Godwin (ankle) could join him, potentially giving the Bucs' offense a massive boost as they host the reigning Super Bowl champions. While there are still a few hurdles to clear -- such as both athletes logging a full practice session -- things are looking up for Tampa Bay as they close out the first month of the season.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, there's a "strong chance" that Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive lineman Tristan Wirfs (knee) will make his season debut in next weekend's home matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles. Wirfs dealt with some knee soreness earlier this summer that required arthroscopic surgery, but he's finally on the brink of return. Shedeur Sanders Not Fazed by Scout-Team Role
Shedeur Sanders relayed via Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com that he is cherishing his time spent on the team's practice squad. As of now, the 23-year-old is behind veteran Joe Flacco and fellow first-year signal-caller Dillon Gabriel on Cleveland's depth chart. However, Gabriel and Bailey Zappe, along with Sanders, all emulate their opposition for the Browns' defense throughout the week, and Sanders is making the best of the situation. Instead of being forelorn in his backup part, the University of Colorado alum is approaching his practice time as his "game day" and notes he's ready for "my opportunity" when it comes. Sanders may very well see the field this season, though when that may occur is anyone's guess. He's a better bet in dynasty formats for now.

Jared Goff Faces Tough Week 3 Matchup on Monday Night
Jared Goff dominated the Chicago Bears in Week 2, completing 23 of 28 pass attempts for 334 yards and five touchdowns. The 30-year-old will now face a significantly tougher test in Week 3 as the Lions travel to Baltimore to take on the Ravens on Monday Night Football. The last time Detroit played in Baltimore back in 2023, Goff struggled. He completed 33 of 53 pass attempts for 284 yards but threw an interception and did not have a touchdown. The Ravens' defense has allowed the second-most passing yards per game (298.5) so far this season, so Detroit's passing game may have some success. Still, Goff profiles outside the top-12 at his position for fantasy in Week 3 and should be avoided where possible in single-QB formats.

Lamar Jackson Remains a Locked-in QB1
Lamar Jackson has done exactly what fantasy managers expected of him. Through two games, Jackson has thrown for 434 yards with six touchdowns and zero interceptions. He has also added an additional 83 yards on eight rushing attempts with another score on the ground. Jackson has looked sharp through his first two games and that should continue in Week 3. He'll draw an elite matchup against the Detroit Lions on Monday night. There's few quarterbacks that will be a better option than Jackson for Week 3. Fantasy managers need to lock him into their lineups as a high-end QB1.

J.J. McCarthy Ditches Walking Boot, Expected to Avoid Injured Reserve
J.J. McCarthy (ankle) will avoid injured reserve after suffering a high-ankle sprain in the fourth quarter against the Atlanta Falcons. Despite the injury, McCarthy was able to finish the game and is now out of his walking boot as he begins ramping up his recovery. The Vikings head to London for Weeks 4 and 5 before a Week 6 bye, giving McCarthy a natural window to rest. While he is expected to travel with the team, his exact return timeline remains unclear. With McCarthy already ruled out for Week 3, veteran Carson Wentz will take over as the starter.

Caleb Williams a Locked-In QB1 Against Dallas
Caleb Williams is off to a promising fantasy start despite the team's 0-2 record. The 2024 first-overall pick is averaging 21.1 fantasy points per game, putting him on pace to finish as the QB10. A major part of his success has come on the ground, where Williams ranks fourth among quarterbacks in rushing yards and fifth in rushing fantasy points from the quarterback position. This week, Williams takes on the Dallas Cowboys and his former head coach, Matt Eberflus. While some worry that Eberflus' familiarity with Williams could pose problems, new Bears head coach Ben Johnson has a proven track record against the Dallas defensive coordinator. During his time with the Lions, Johnson's offenses topped 30 points in four of six meetings against Eberflus' defenses. Meanwhile, the Cowboys' defense has been a liability, giving up the most fantasy points to quarterbacks in both 2024 and 2025, while allowing the most rushing yards and touchdowns to quarterbacks in both seasons. In what projects to be a high-scoring affair, Williams profiles as a mid QB1 for Week 3.

Matthew Stafford a Riskier Play with Tough Matchup on Tap
Matthew Stafford is tough to trust in fantasy football ahead of his Week 3 matchup against the Philadephia Eagles. While Stafford is a talented veteran who is able to rack up touchdowns and limit turnovers in the Rams' offense, he'll face his toughest test of the season this week in the Eagles. Philadelphia has allowed the ninth-fewest fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks, limiting Patrick Mahomes II to 187 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. While a negative game script could work in Stafford's favor, the tough matchup and the quarterback's lack of rushing upside drop him to the low-end QB2 range this week. He's only worth starting in 2QB or superflex leagues.

Daniel Jones a High-End QB2 in Week 3
Daniel Jones is off to a hot start in 2025, having thrown for 588 yards and two touchdowns while adding three rushing touchdowns. Jones will look to keep it going in a road matchup against the Tennessee Titans in Week 3. The Titans have struggled on defense thus far through two games, allowing 26.5 points per game while notching just two sacks, 30th-most in the league. Jones doesn't have a historically sterling reputation as a fantasy option thanks to his up-and-down tenure as the quarterback of the New York Giants, but he's trustworthy to start as a high-end QB2 heading into Week 3.

Jake Browning has Some Upside in Week 3
Jake Browning will get the start in Week 3 versus the Vikings. With Joe Burrow (toe) out at least three months, Browning could remain in the role for the rest of the 2025 campaign. The 29-year-old took over in the Week 2 narrow win over the Jags after Burrow went down, finishing with 241 yards off 21-for-32 passing (65.6%). Although he added two touchdowns through the air, he also tossed three picks. With Cincinnati sitting at 2-0, Browning will try to keep the team in the win column on Sunday. The signal-caller started seven times in 2023, throwing for 1,868 yards, 11 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. While his statistical contributions weren't the worst, there was certainly room for improvement. With so many ailing quarterbacks in Week 3, Browning is worth starting in Superflex formats, considering he has Ja'Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, and Chase Brown in his arsenal. He also can provide value for those participating in DFS contests. However, Browning may not be the safest option in single-QB setups. That won't change moving ahead unless he proves he can be more productive and mistake-free.

Tyrod Taylor to Handle QB1 Duties Vs. Bucs
Tyrod Taylor will take the field this Sunday in an exploitable matchup with the hosting Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The 36-year-old hasn't drawn a start since Week 17 of the 2023 season during his time with the Giants, but he'll get the nod in Week 3 with Jets' starter Justin Fields (concussion) battling a concussion. Taylor isn't a world-beater, but he's at least an average thrower of the football. Fortuitously, he'll square off against a Buccaneers defense that's allowed 235.5 passing yards per game - the ninth-most in the league. The Jets figure to continue relying on their ground attack, but Tampa Bay has been excellent in that regard (76.5 yards allowed per game [fifth-fewest]). It wouldn't be surprising to see the team air it out slightly more than they have through the first two weeks, particularly with Baker Mayfield and the Bucs pushing the pace. He's RotoBaller's QB21 ahead of Week 3, and can be left on waivers for the time being sans two-quarterback formats.

Mac Jones the Likely Starter for Week 3
Mac Jones is lined up for another start in place of Brock Purdy (toe/shoulder) in Week 3. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said it is "highly unlikely" Purdy gets the start on Sunday. Jones finished as the QB7 in Week 2, completing 26 of 39 passes for 279 yards and three touchdowns against the Saints. On Sunday, the 49ers face an Arizona Cardinals defense that gave up 328 yards and three touchdowns to Carolina's Bryce Young last week and might be without cornerbacks Max Melton (knee) and Will Johnson (groin). Jones is projected as a QB2 in Week 3, making him viable in superflex formats and deeper leagues.

Trevor Lawrence Tough to Trust in Week 3
Trevor Lawrence has had one dud week and one solid week so far this season, making it hard to trust him against the Houston Texans secondary. The running game has been good to start the season, but the passing game has been inconsistent due to a multitude of young pass catchers and newcomers. Lawrence has some rushing upside, but it is counteracted by being turnover-prone (three interceptions and a fumble in two weeks). He has also dealt with drops from receiver Brian Thomas Jr., who reportedly has been dealing with a wrist injury. Both from a real football and fantasy perspective, Lawrence has not done enough to earn confidence from fantasy managers and Jaguars fans alike, making him a QB2 in Week 3.
Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Drake Maye Has QB1 Upside Ahead of Favorable Matchup in Week 3
Drake Maye is an intriguing fantasy option heading into Sunday's Week 3 contest against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Maye has looked solid through the first two games of the season, demonstrating accurate passing, moderately clean football, and rushing upside. His path to fantasy production continues to trend in the right direction this weekend. While the Steelers have been a strong defense in recent history, they have struggled to contain quarterback production this year, allowing the sixth-most fantasy points to the position. Both Justin Fields and Sam Darnold have found fantasy success against Pittsburgh, and Maye should follow in their footsteps. He's a fringe top-12 fantasy quarterback heading into Week 3.
