Orioles Option Coby Mayo To Triple-A
4 months agoThe Baltimore Orioles optioned rookie infielder Coby Mayo to Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday and recalled infielder Livan Soto from Norfolk in a corresponding move. Mayo finally recorded his first MLB hit in his seventh game on Wednesday night at Camden Yards against the Washington Nationals, but for now he'll head back to the farm to continue his development. The team's No. 2 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, had an opportunity for regular playing time at third base in Baltimore with Jordan Westburg out with a fractured hand, but he wasn't able to take advantage, going 1-for-17 (.059) with three walks and 10 strikeouts in his first 20 big-league plate appearances. The 22-year-old still has a lot of long-term fantasy upside and should return when rosters expand in September, but for now, veteran Ramon Urias will handle most of the starts at third for the O's.
