Nick Kurtz Placed on Injured List With Strained Hip Flexor
Nick Kurtz (hip) on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to May 25) with a strained left hip flexor and selected the contract of outfielder Drew Avans from Triple-A Las Vegas in a corresponding move. Kurtz, the club's top prospect per MLB Pipeline, debuted to much fanfare upon his call-up to the big leagues after clubbing seven homers in 20 games for Vegas in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League. The former fourth overall pick last year out of Wake Forest hasn't been as productive in his first 28 MLB games, but he's hit a decent .245 (23-for-94) with five homers and 15 RBI in 108 trips to the plate. The 22-year-old power threat should be stashed in an IL spot while he heals. In the meantime, fellow prospect Logan Davidson could see extra work at first base alongside Tyler Soderstrom in Sacramento.
