Max Scherzer Set to Throw Side Session on Sunday
Max Scherzer (thumb) is expected to throw a side session on Sunday. He was initially expected to complete this session on Saturday. However, it appears he has not faced a setback as he remains in play to potentially return next week when the Blue Jays open a series against the Cleveland Guardians. Scherzer has been held out of action since making his Toronto debut with a thumb injury. The right-hander began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Buffalo earlier in June. In his most recent outing, the right-hander logged 4 1/3 shutout innings with one hit, two walks, and eight strikeouts. When Scherzer returns, he will likely replace Eric Lauer or Spencer Turnbull in the starting rotation. He is worth a look as a depth starting pitcher in all standard leagues, given his strikeout upside.
