Matt Kemp Unlikely To Return To Form In Los Angeles
7 years agoMatt Kemp is once again a Dodger after an off-season trade of bad contracts that sent Adrian Gonzalez, Scott Kazmir, Brandon McCarthy and Charlie Culberson to the Braves. Kemp will be fighting for a spot in left field against Enrique Hernandez, Andrew Toles and hot prospect Alex Verdugo. Kemp is a shell of his former MVP-level self. He doesn't hit for power and doesn't run, providing a -6.5 offensive WAR in 2017. He's a defensive liability in left and it was hoped that the Dodgers could off-load his contract to an AL team that needed a DH to clear salary cap space for a possible Yu Darvish signing. Nothing of the sort happened and, by all accounts, Kemp will be in the mix for Spring Training. There is the possibility for a rebound and early reports have Kemp looking fit and ready in Arizona. But it's hard to recommend him over younger players with upside, so buyer beware.
