Left-hander Martin Perez cleared waivers on Tuesday, elected free agency, and has now re-signed with the Atlanta Braves on a minor-league deal, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post. For now, Perez will most likely head to Triple-A Gwinnett to give the Braves experienced starting pitching depth going forward. The 35-year-old Venezuelan hurler handled himself well in his first three appearances (two starts) with Atlanta before being removed from the 40-man roster, allowing five earned runs on nine hits while walking four and striking out six in 14 1/3 innings pitched. Perez is in his 15th year in the big leagues, so he has plenty of experience, but for fantasy baseball purposes, there's not much upside. It remains to be seen if he'll get another opportunity for an extended stay in the starting rotation in the majors, and his career 16.3% strikeout rate won't attract fantasy managers.--Keith Hernandez
