Marlins Optioning Braxton Garrett to Triple-A
The Miami Marlins will option left-hander Braxton Garrett to Triple-A Jacksonville on Wednesday, a source told Jordan McPherson of The Miami Herald. Garrett joined the big-league rotation after left-handed pitching prospect Robby Snelling (elbow) landed on the injured list, and he had a rough return to the big leagues, allowing five earned runs while walking five and striking out three in just 1 1/3 innings in a loss on May 14 against the Minnesota Twins. Garrett made his second start for the Fish in an 8-4 loss to the division-rival Atlanta Braves on Tuesday, allowing two earned runs on three hits while walking three and striking out two in only three innings to lower his season ERA through two starts to 14.54. The 28-year-old southpaw was slightly better on Tuesday, but it still wasn't a great showing, and the Marlins want him to go back to the minors to work on some things. It is unclear who will be considered to take Garrett's spot in the big-league starting rotation with Snelling facing an extended absence.
