Luis Severino 2020 Outlook: Health Remains The Biggest Question
5 years agoThe answer to your question is health because New York Yankees starter Luis Severino’s fantasy value is probably going to come down to just how much you can trust his health after last year's lost season. Bogged down with injuries almost all of 2019, Severino didn’t make his first start until September 17 and ended up making only two more, finishing with a total of just 12 innings pitched. In that brief sample, Severino had a 35.4% K-rate and averaged 96.2 mph on his fastball, which was a tick or two below where he’s sat in years prior but that is also understandable given the circumstances. Severino is expected to be fully healthy in 2020 but currently has a 61 ADP in NFBC leagues, sitting as the #18 pitcher, sandwiched in-between elder statesmen, Clayton Kershaw and Charlie Morton. If you believe that Severino will make the 31-32 starts he made in 2017-18, then you’ll likely be getting a massive bargain at that draft price; but if health concerns continue to chase the 25-year-old right-hander, you might just be flushing a fifth-round pick right down the drain.
